It can't hurt to try...it may be sold out part of your stay but if you're checking in a few days earlier you may get lucky. Your chances are probably less if they are sold out at some point during your stay, but you may as well try. Usually they will give you the $20 back if they can't do anything for you. I've read of some clerks pocketing it anyway. If you're worried, keep it in your hand where it's visible to them when you ask about complimentary upgrades.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SeptemberYou could always try. Yes they will give you your money back if they can't do anything for you.
Of course it depends on what you call an "upgrade", higher room? strip view? these are all upgrades. You will find unless you booked these or just the cheapest room available you quite possibly be allocated a low floor and facing the airport or mountains. Now if you want to ensure a view, then tip away, that won't be effected by whether the place is full or not, they will just move people around.
Now if you want a BIGGER or NICER room this could be a problem if they are full.
Anyway, if this is what you are after always ask for what you want. Say "you don't happen to have any complementary upgrades to a "P" room do you?" Or "is there any chance of a Red Room" These are the 2 upgrades that can be had, you will not get a suite. We have had both types of rooms and the "P" room is far better than the "Red Room". Much bigger and near the lifts.
Now also depends on what you want as to how much you tip. for a strip/higher room $20 for the week is fine. If you want a room upgrade, I always go with $40 for a 7 night stay.
P.S. Don't do the hiding the money between the credit card thing, too cheesy, and they can't tell how much you are tipping. I unfold my money and place it in my passport, when they take it and open to check your ID the money is laying right in front of them, they can see how much you are tipping and what to try and get you. That is the point where I say, "and that is for you if you can hook me up with a P room."(I think tretts says "that is my upgrade voucher:rotfl:")I have never failed at the Paris, we had the receptionist tapping away for a good 10-15 minutes once, moving people around to get us in a room. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

December ( including Xmas and New Year )Why would anyone click it for a thread they didn't like ?????

its not really a "likeability" as such
when someone clicks the button, it alerts the MSE team to that thread, which may contain a great "deal or offer" , which I guess they may want to include in the weekly email. You can only click once for each thread, and the rating is based on recent clicks only, I think it may be 24 hours and then drops off.0 -
AugustHey All
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a flight I found from Glasgow to Vegas next year. I've been looking for a few weeks for a decent price with BA, Continental, Us Airways, Virgin(+Connection) and KLM in Late August to Start September.
Found this flight this morning for the Date range 24th Aug - 3rd September with KLM (via there website) for £514.69 each (3 passengers).
Outward
Glasgow (6am) - Amsterdam (8:40am) (With KLM)
Amsterdam (10:20am) - Minneapolis (12:20pm) (With Northwest-Delta)
Minneapolis (2:30pm) - Las Vegas (3:48) (With Northwest-Delta)
Inward
Las Vegas (7:45am) - Atlanta (2:36pm) (With Northwest-Delta)
Atlanta (5:25pm) - Amsterdam (8:20am 4th Sep) (With Northwest-Delta)
Amsterdam (10am) - Glasgow (10:30am) (With KLM).
Its seems a lot of connections but price wise its cheaper than the others by a fair bit (BA £612.40, Continental £567.10, US Airways £665, Virgin(+BA) £605.70).
It would only leave 2hrs in Minneapolis to clear Customs and doesn't leave much room for delays etc.
Guess I'm looking for advice on if it seems like a good route/price.0 -
for £50 quid extra i would take a straight USA connection . more changes = more chance of problems and bags going astray .Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0

AugustThat sounds rather high. I'd wait a bit before booking as that time in (late) August fares are usually a bit lower. I paid £329 with Delta from London for those dates this year booking four or five months out with one change. Even allowing £100 for a Glasgow London connecting flight that's still a lot cheaper than you're finding at the moment.
You DO realise how punishingly hot Vegas is in August I assume ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

August106 isn't punishingly hot ??????
Quite honestly I don't see the point in going to Vegas just to sit by a pool and fry but each to their ownI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
