Free stopover, as I understand it means you can stay at your point of entry (e.g. NYC) for a period of time, then fly to your final destination at a later date. You are effectively only paying for the flight to Vegas, but you can use the connection in NYC to your advantage and have a few days there, without paying extra. Hope that makes sense, it's harder to explain when you come to type it out !

Yes that's what I meant to say. You don't just jump from one flight to the next. You can spend a few days between flights in NY so it's a stopover rather than a connection.

Who did you book with or do you have a promo code? I just tried the Encore site for May next year, but it says to contact the hotel.

    used the booking.com site

Think you used to be able to do this on the way back also, so if you could fly back via a different airport you could stay again in another city.

I thought along those lines although the flight from Edinburgh only stops at Newark on way to Vegas.

Just 1 "stopover" is fine for us - NY - we hate flying :rotfl:

    Time to get this booked!!

Luci - price are the same with Continental & Expedia - based onyour probs the other day I take it I'm best to book with Cont??

    Thanks

Sorry it was Claire - just tracked my posts & edited the above.

My head is bursting with this - should I book or not - Vegas for 7 or NY & Vegas - ahhh!!! :rotfl:

If you are only going for 7 nights, Vegas all the way ! Although it's always nice to have 2 'different' trips when only paying for 1 flight. We're going to Vegas next year but flying out to San Diego - few days there, then driving to Vegas for 7 nights.

If the prices are the same, I would always book direct - at least then you don't have to mess around contacting anyone else for information.

After careful consideration & literally a week on my PC, we have decided 3nts in NY & 4 in Vegas.

We have been to Vegas twice & fancy NY -always good to try something new although it will probably be rip off city.

Book directly with the airline. The only reason to book with an online travel agent such as expedia would be if they were offering a cheaper fare than the airline themselves.

I think tingtongs already answered this for you but a free stopover just means for example that if you fly from Edinburgh to Vegas via NY that you can break your trip up by spending a few days in NY without incurring any extra flight charges.

I've done LV and NY in the same trip and it as fantastic albeit hectic and tiring. Depending on your flight times i'd be tempted to do 2 nights NY and 5 nights LV but then i do love Vegas more:D

We don't get into NY until 3pm so 2 nights isn't long really.

We've looked a some Vegas prices & were going to do the Palazzo from Fri 18/9 for 4 nts at £338 but to do 5 nights in the Mirage is £342.

I've never really seen many comments here on the Mirage - would you sacrifice 4nts at Palazzo for 5nts at Mirage if it meant an extra night in Vegas?

The flight price is the same so no worries there.

I don't find NYC "rip off city" at all. I've always found it to be very good value. Loads of free things to do and the locals are lovely. It's like London -if you go eat and drink at the touristy places you'll pay top price for poor quality but if you go where the locals go you'll do fine.
Don't even think of a cab from Newark to manhattan though-the Airtrain or the bus are both much better value and very easy.

No. No comparison with the likes of Wynn or Palazzo. If youre really hard up but want 5 nights, do 4 nights at Palazzo, but start off the trip with a $49 night at MGM (or 2 MGM and 3 Palazzo to get to same price).
