SeptemberJust had a lovely meet with ferf and OH. Had a nice chat and they told us about new Penguins machines at PH that we hadn't come across. Went and had a play, OH got lots of little random bonuses and I got next to nothing, but will be trying again as they look a lot of fun.0

October , NovemberI'm so glad that you met with Ferf and hubby. They are a lovely couple. We have missed them by a short time on our last few trips, but would love to meet up again. Ferf, take notice, and let us know your dates next year. ;-)0

October , NovemberAfter posing a question on the travel insurance forum, seems like I’m going to have to renew my annual worldwide insurance policy today to cover me for my Las Vegas holiday. (due in a few days).
Long story short, policy expires mid air on ret journey home, landing day after ret flight takes off…. Prev spoken to ins co’ who adv cant insure ourselves for few extra days, will need new policy for whole year. (already upgraded from European to worldwide ,and paid extra premium to cover this trip). After chking ins forum was going to opt for independent travellers policy (policy aimed at folks who put own deal together, covers all parts of your itinery if any part fails).
But it got me thinking, if you book your flights and pay with your credit card you’re covered if the co’ goes bust, your accommodation can be cancelled with so many hrs notice, would it really be necessary to pay for such a policy?
What type of travel insurance do the regulars of this thread have?. Any insight appreciated.0 -

Hi can't comment re the credit card thingy, my thoughts are please do not travel or risk anything without insurance.I know its only a few hours but if your flight was delayed or you missed it through illness...you just never know.
If you check out some of Martins travel articles worldwide insurance isn't that bad. Ours was £63.00 worldwide annual for a family of four with some pre existing medical conditions...DD1 has asthma and OH had just had an op last time we travelled.
Please don't risk it for few quid, its comparable to the price of a meal really.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

October , NovemberThanks Triker for your reply, after reading it and re-reading my post i think my post was kind of misleading in the way i worded it.. I am renewing my insurance. But what i am saying is, is it really necessary to have an independant travellers policy rather than an annual worldwide policy(with appropiate cover).
Apols for any confusion.0 -

Hard to answer really, I mean if your'e a bit Bear Grylls then yes I'd say go for something specific, if not I'd go for your basic commer garden type insurance.:DDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Who is your policy with, what is the excess and is it per claim or per incident?0 -
October , NovemberThanks for your replies. Wish I was Bear Grylls, we don’t do any hazardous activities!!!!(boring..yawn..yawn).
The policy we have is with Halifax and the cover meets our requirement, (or so I thought) but what I noticed on chking M.S.E. insurance forum, is that if you regularly book your flight and accommodation separately, (not package deals) plus any other related items, e.g. car hire, you should opt for an independent travellers policy. Because if one element of your holidays fails you will be covered for any other related holiday items and not be out of pocket (hope this makes sense).
We are going to depart for Las Vegas next few days, so don’t really think this will be applicable to this hol, but next oct we will be going to Las Vegas and surrounding areas touring .So was wondering if when I renew today should I go for this type of policy or would it not make any difference for reasons given in my post #2255.
