Southwest do Vegas to LA pretty cheaply too. Download SW's DING and it will tell you what new offers are available.

Has anyone hired a car from Vegas to LA and left it there?

We are thinking of staying in Vegas for 6 days or so and then going to LA for a few more days and then maybe on to Hollywood.

But we do want an old style American car if possible.

    Any ideas

We've done the opposite - rented in LA and dropped in Vegas. Just make sure that there's no one-way drop fee on the rental. Not sure what you mean by an 'old style American car' but if you mean any sort of a classic - that's going to be a specialist rental and you may have more trouble finding an option that will allow you to do a one-way trip...will also be lots more expensive and less likely to find an all-inclusive rental from the UK I would think (but could be wrong).

Also, Hollywood is part of LA. :)

Couple of things - the drive (without stops) from Vegas to LA is 4 hours+ in a car...on a bus making stops, I should imagine it would be much longer...so even if you assume 4 1/2 hours each way which I would think would be conservative - that's 9 hours on a bus. If you depart at 6 am and return at 9pm, that's 15 hours. So 6 hours maximum in LA.

Do you have specific things you want to see in LA? Are they close together? How will you get around and back to the bus once in LA?

It seems like a lot of travel time for a limited time in LA and a fairly significant cost - you could probably get cheap flights for less.

Thanks for the reply. This LINK is what we were thinking of.

I don't think the bus tour is a viable option. It's gonna be a fly or drive (ourselves) trip i reckon. Thanks everyone.

If you aren't locked into your Vegas hotel reservations then it might even pay you to do it as an overnight stop say fly out early evening and fly back the following evening -just a thought.

I think that with all they plan to do you would probably have limited time at each of the stops - it looks like they estimate the return journey to take 5 1/2 hours...so assuming the same for the journey there, that would only leave 4 hours in LA...based on the intinerary I would guess that you're not stopping anywhere very long if at all so would basically be off the bus, back on the bus en masse.

I think duchy's idea of staying overnight in LA makes a lot of sense.

Agree.....in fact make it Saturday/Sunday to avoid the high rates in Vegas on Saturday nights. Still think hiring the car to be better and cheaper and probably quicker (when you add in the get to airport/checkin/wait/flight/wait etc) than flying.

carhire3000 have no one way fee between Nevada and California.....possibly Arizona also included in that. We hired in Vegas and dropped off at LAX.
