Hey, i'll be wanting to check out a rifle range or shooting range when I go, hasanyone been to the one's in LV?

As mentioned above, if you have a car, I would recommend this instead:

    https://www.shootingsafaris.com

I did it back in April, the guy who runs it (Tom) spent over 3 hours with me shooting all sorts of pistols and rifles - cost $140. If there's a few of you I think you can do a bit of a deal with him. If you go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, the shooting club is shut so you have the place to yourself !

Stoneman has also been twice and he thinks it's great too.

Yes, I did it on my own. My wife came along, just to watch, but she ended up shooting a few times. We didn't realise it would last over 3 hours so I don't think she'd go with me next time.

Like I say, best to go on Tuesday or Wednesday. When I went, there was just me, my wife and Tom (the instructor) - in the middle of the desert. It was great fun, although a little scary at first !

Have a look on Youtube for Magnum 460 - you get a couple of shots with one of these.

Shooting Through History - the AR15 (with red dot) and Sniper Rifle are pretty cool to shoot.

Only 10 more night sleeps I am so excited.:j:j
If only we could agree on which shows to see. (the age difference must be showing!!) In your opinion is it worth hiring a car for a couple of days? If it is, is it better to sort it out before we go?

Thanks to everyone for their fantastic advice Lx

We always hire a car for the duration of our trips, even if we don't use it everyday the flexibility and freedom it gives is worth it.

If you do decide to hire one definitely book before you go:

Thanks guys, that should reassure her a bit. So I take it you're driving through the mountains rather then over them. What's the driving terrain like for VOF do you need quite a big hire car for it?

Just one thing about VOF especially - bring drinks...as far as we could find there was only a vending machine in the entryway to the visitor's centre and it was taking money and not dispensing anything - bit of a nightmare. We waited as we had stupidly assumed they would have a little shop in the visitor's centre to buy drinks and were pretty much going to die of dehydration if we didn't get something (OK, that's an exaggeration, but we were REALLY thirsty).

    So, bring drinks. :)

We preferred VOF to Red Rock ourselves though it is a longer drive to get there. At RR you do drive up in elevation a lot more than at VOF from what I can remember...VOF is a lot more driving on the same level or seems it most of the time though there are some outlooks that are higher, the majority seems pretty much at the same altitude.

We're also fans of having a rental car, though others prefer not to for various reasons (wrong-side driving, traffic, having a drink)...it really is up to how you feel about it. Like Claire, we think it gives us loads of freedom and always rent one for the full time we're there - even if on occasion it's sat in the parking garage or valet for 2 days at at a time. :) Agree with Claire to sort it out beforehand - you'll almost certainly get a better rate going through one of the links she posted than you will if you walk up on the day.
