    Hi guys,

Just been reading through this thread and it has been very helpful with planning.

Looking at going to Vegas in June next year, but unsure where to stay. We will be going from Wednesday 9th June, till Weds 16th.

Going to be on a bit of a budget so we have more spending money whilst there, what hotels should we be looking at?

Looked at the Strat, but peoples opinions about eh location, distance etc were a little off putting. Any other cheaper hotels on the strip that we should look at?

Also, when is the best time to book flights? Now or closer to the time? Again, cheaper is better!

    Cheers guys,

Augustus tower without a doubt. Don't forget to ring housekeeping before you go out in the evening and ask for the turndown service. It is free, and when you return there will be some gold coin chocolates on the bedside table, fresh towels, a tidy round, lights dimmed, music playing, robes on the bed, and bed turned down. Just leave a couple of dollars on the bed.
Ask for a room near the lifts, they are huge because the tower design juts out at that point. Just remember that you only ever get a side on strip view because the tower sits at right angles, but the Augustus rooms are some of the best in Vegas.

Not far, only about 1 mile, and if you have a car there is tons of free parking. Just down E.Tropicana or Harmon

Eeek 63 days until we go and we haven't planned or booked anything yet.

The last time we went I was obsessed with planning everything....got a little too much really.

So I need to get myself organised and figure out what we need to do.

    I feel a list coming on.:D

Off the top of my head need to

work out how to pre book seat on plane if poss, couldn't work out seat guru last time I looked.

    Ring airline re mobility issues.

Check all is well and relevent on travel insurance.

    Do ESTA visa thingy online.

    Book car hire.

Join car hire club thingy so don't have to queue for ever at pick up.

    Book a show or two.

Check savings and convert more dollars.

Maybe buy American casino guide for coupons

Fish out las vegas guide books

Buy some more shoes for walking about.

I'm sure I'll add to it as I remember more stuff.:D

david copperfield is at MGM all through september... has anyone seen the show and would recommend it?

    thanks!

    Hi Karie,

I saw him in May of last year, I was really looking forward to him as he has sucha great reputation but I was bitterly disappointed. Like Luci said he looks bored with what he does and gives off an air of arrogance. His eyes constantly wander to all the pretty girls near the front (so did mine, just not as often!!).

If you want to see a really good magician I would reccomend Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo, he was fantastic. Just checked on their website and they are selling tickets till 6th September with 25% off when booked online. Here's the link to the page on their website.

Also Mac King does an afternoon show (Harrahs??) which is very good as well, there are normally 2 for 1 tickets kicking around for him.

Simbak2k - Not sure if you're aware, but you could take the car to the Hoover Dam, and then book a guided tour. We did this last year and the tour guide was great. Great detail and a great price. Would give you the freedom to go when you wanted and stay for as long as you please...... Just an idea. Not sure if you knew they did tours there. Get there early if booking the full tour, we just sneaked in at about 11am, or it was a 3 hour wait. There's a tiny elevator that goes down into the heart of the dam, so this restricts the number of places they can sell for each time slot :)

Spalding - I went to a college football game in Nov last year. Really good fun. You pick up your tickets at the Thomas & Mack which isn't far from the strip, about a mile as stoneman says but the game itself isn't there! It's at the Sam Boyd stadium....... It was about a 20-30 mins drive from memory, so it's prob best to have a car. Free parking at the stadium. (Expect cab fare would be quite steep). Was good fun to get off strip for a while - we'd go again :)
