Natwest PPI offer- Help required please!!

Hi there,
I am a new user to this forum and I have read the guidance notes into the whole issue of the misselling of the PPI however i am not sure if it applies to my case ir if I should be in fact considering pursuing a claim to reclaim the PPI.
I have a policy with Natwest in 2006 which due to my age and status results in myself paying a premium of £10 a month.
At the time when the Natwest representative was discussing my loan and the PPI, I can't recall whether she told me or implied that taking out the PPI would assist with my credit application. Also, due to my bad memory, I can't recall for certain as to whether I was informed that taking out the PPI would be optional.
As to the length of the policy it is to last for 10 years and my loan must be repaid within 7 years. I only realised now what the extra 3 years of having the PPI is for? Is it necessary for the PPi to run for the extra 3 years? If so, why?
Also, as I have not yet, made a claim under the PPI, I do not know if I will be one of the unfortunate people who,if they do make a claim then they will not be allowed to make any more claims in the future.
Please could someone kindly let me know as to whether I have any sufficient grounds to reclaim the PPI and if so on what grounds?
Thanks very much,0 -

Hello and welcome.;)
Personally I think you have a good case here, especially having a loan over 7 years and pay for 10, that is a complaint alone and a total rip off, for instance why pay over the extra years if there is nothing to protect? seems rather odd to me.
And of course if you think you would not be successful in making a claim for instance for sickness/unemployment, this is worthless to you.
They may try to argue this with you by stating "you must have been aware when this was sold to you" but this is just standard, you must try to keep fighting until they resolve in your favour, or until they issue you with the final response, where the details of the financial ombudsman service should be disclosed, you can take your complaint to these if your not happy with the final outcome of your complaint.
The FOS should see this in your favour if the business does not.
I would go for it with your reasons you have and keep at them until they resolve of given you the final decision.
As you are aware they have 8 weeks in full to respond, and best as well to post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting.
Link here to guidelines of reclaiming, templates and a mis selling checklist, good luck and please keep us posted and ask for further help if required.

Hi and welcome back
lol.
Did you actually write to the head office on this as well hun?
If not you do need to do this as well, and give the usual 8 weeks, the local branch unfortunately rarely deals with this matter, if they have a separate complaints dept you could write to them or as stated the head office of the bank.;)

PS, will be popping shortly to visit dad at the hospital and will try to remember to read back on your posts again later, and see what we can do, if I forget, please pm me to remind me lol, cheers hun XXX
Thank s for getting back to me,
I hope your dad is better?.. On the subject of Ratsnest, I have not written to the Head Office, my last communication has been with the PPI team only.
If you can let me know what I need to do, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

Hi hun
Thanks for asking on dad.
Mum is there with him now and my other sister, as he has dementia, the staff cannot cope, so we are all taking in turns to stay with him as much as possible, until he is transferred to the hospital that are qualified to deal with his situation, it's very sad, as he is only 68, and has a number of health problems.
I found out that the nursing staff have been forgetting to give his main dementia meds, and yet the cardex where they write all the meds in, he have been having everything but not them tabs, they apologised, but not good enough as his confusion has worsened over the last few days, despite what he went in for, he is well recovered from that, but I also understand that they have lots of patients to deal with and they are short staffed.
Oh dear......sorry for going on......:o.
What is the full name of the bank hun?
I will try to find the details of the head office or complaints office, cheers. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I would write to them and ask when should you hear the latest, and maybe give them your own timescale, as much as you want to avoid taking this to the FOS, tell them you believe they have had ample time to deal with this and give them your timescale, say for example 7 days as from date on your letter, and if you hear nothing by then you will have to take this matter to the Financial ombudsman service to investigate.
I know you want to avoid going this direction, but due to the distress they are causing if you did take this to the FOS, I would also request for a distress payment as well, where the FOS would probably do this for you in your favour as well.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

So sorry to hear about your Dad, dementia is hard to deal with, It's even harder when you entrust others looking after them and you are not there. I know they also struggle but they are meant to be more trained in this field. The other day I came out of work and this little old lady was sitting outside our car park and I noticed her hand was bleeding quite badly. I parked the car back and myself and my colleague who I was giving a lift to took her into our work and cleaned her up and we tried to find out where she had been and where she was going she kept talking about going to Blackheath which was hundereds of miles from where she was and she couldn't remember where she lived, in the end we had to call the Police who were near to useless, in the end the paramedics came and took her to the hospital.
It turns out shge had dementia and she had absconded from one of the homes not far from our workplace, but that was someones mother?.. I was quite concerned by the fact the Police didn't know what to do?.. Sorry to waffle on....

I have done this before and they completely ignored my timescales, 7 days turned into 4weeks!.. This is the norm with Natwest. Shall I just go back to them (at the head office)explaining the problems I have with the 'True copy of the Agreement' as they have stated I need to sign the goodwill offer and send it back enclosing copies of documents with my signature on it? they are trying to apply it to my closed account. This is what I want to avoid as I have other priority debts.. This is actually very distressing now, so I will seek additional payment for this also should this go to the ombudsman.
The offer that was made I am sure is still lower than what is on my paperwork, but i am not sure if I am calculating this right?
I just want to sort this out and start to ease the pressure that I have right now on me.
I keep putting things off thinking that this will be sorted soon and it keeps dragging.
Sorry again for going on...

Hey not to worry, I would feel the same as you, and understand how frustrating this is for you.
Yes write to them about this matter, address posted in the above thread, explain what you can to them up to date and post by recorded delivery to make sure this reaches them as well.
Have you made contact with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) the data dept about this matter as well? (to save me going back on posts lol)?
ICO here:
http://www.ico.gov.uk/what_we_cover/data_protection.aspx
and contact details here:
https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
you should come across the contact details half way down the page.
The FSA maybe another one to contact as well, check on their site here:
http://www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/Doing/Contact/index.shtml
I would ring both the ICO and the FSA if the ICO does nothing, but they should, explain your situation with your agreement and they "should" let you know the best direction to take from here.
Failing that I would then go to the FOS and make the head office aware as well.
Hope this helps hun, fingers crossed.;)
