The Most Expensive Item In Your Wardrobe....And Was It Worth It?

Having had a massive clearout and not really being a 'designer names' person anyway, my most expensive items are;
1. Coast silk jersey top. £65. It's a dark teal shade , drapes beautifully, very flattering, bought in haste for New Year's Eve about 5 years ago and worn once. Was it worth it? No, but that's cos I put it with black pants and killed the beautiful colour and have never had anything that really goes with it!
2. Reiss ankle boots £95, a present, serious killer heels and so uncomfortable only worn couple of times Worth it? Not really, could have got similar for way less. I have a strangely guilty feeling about them when I catch sight of them in the wardrobe.
3.Miss Mandalay Bikini (Bravissimo) this season About £70. Worth it? Love it! Worth every penny and more for the magic it works.
Over to you!

Ooh, interesting thread!
I've got a lot of items round the £60 mark, but these are generally things I wear a lot, things I paid slightly more for are:
1) Office Pagusas shoes - £85. They're amazing - I adore them and wear them about once a week when I hit the town, they're ridiculously high, but oh so comfortable!

2) 2x Coast Ball dresses at around £120 each - only for special occasions!
3) 2x Agent Provocateur Underwear sets at around £120 each - love, love, love them. One is blue with pink polka dots, the other is a more see-through black affair with purple ribbons threaded into the material. They're just so beautiful!June NSD's - 5/25

Edit to say: Well, those of you who know me from the Fashionista thread (which will probably be most of the people on this thread!) will know that my dearest item of clothing probably cost me about a tenner! I reckon goanmad's will be a Chanel dress for 50p! :rotfl: Let me think...
A gorgeous black strapless prom dress from Debenhams with netting underneath and a boned corset... cost me about £100 but worth every penny - back in my spendthrift days!
A beautiful pink silk dress from Monsoon... £110 (but not to me, I got it for £30 in the sale:rotfl:)
A purple velvet handbag that is my fav bag in the whole world.. bought from Luna Llena in Spain for about €50 and worth every cent, aaahhhhhhh
I can't think of anything else but there must be more. Even the things I've listed aren't that expensive really! I have plenty of clothes that were expensive at their original price but I got them for peanuts... does that count?
I'm so looking forward to reading everyone else's - reckon there will be some proper expensive stuff!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

A green/silver silk chiffon dress bought last year from Phase Eight for £130, although once you add in the bag and shoes the outfit cost more like £230. Have worn it to 3 weddings so far and will wear it for another one later this month. I do love it so consider it worth the money.0

I have a pair of dkny jeans from the u.s (too big now, should get rid really) sis got them can't remember how much.
A pair of pure wool shorts from chloe (via ebay) and have worn them at least once a week last winter with tights and uggs. Paid 25 ish for them worth every penny.
Said uggs, £140 two winters ago, worth every penny warm comfortable. Defo will be worn this year.
North face waterproof jacket, had about 3 years, paid £150 ish, well with our weather it gets plent of wear. I use it for walking the dogs mainly, but throw it over my normal jacket when the showers hit. It is slightly too big so can get away with this.
Karen Millen sandles (cheshire oaks) £40 ish. Only worn on my few nights out a year, but dead comfy and very flattering.
I have asked dh if i can have a real chloe paddington for xmas, or a burberry mac so doing some more investement shopping this year!!
Yes all the above items were worth it. I find it's the cheap stuff that i really regrett, so tend to avoid it now.

Here's mine:
- Electric blue Gold by Giles Deacon (the range he does for New Look) trench coat. Originally priced at £50 but got it for £45 with student discount. To be fair I've only worn it once in the two weeks since I got it but hopefully come the autumn it'll be getting a lot more use, so I think it's definitely worth it. I'd wanted a really nice bright trench coat for ages and this one is just perfect.
- Black Monsoon silk/cotton mix dress with gold sash, I think about £110 (although it was a 21st birthday present). I reckon it was worth it though, it's perfect for my shape and just so beautiful - I call it my Strictly dress.
- Black strapless polka dot prom dress - £40 (so £36 with student discount) in Topshop about six years ago. That was definitely worth the money though as I wear it a LOT for fancy occasions.
My bridesmaid dresses (yes I've still got them) were probably around the £50 mark as well, but they were made by my dad's cousin and I'm not entirely sure how much they cost. I've never worn them again but I'm not sure I'd want to, I think I just love them too much.
And my Gap jeans as well, but I bought them with discount vouchers (they're about £40 each normally but I got them for £27) so I don't know if they count, and I think for jeans that money's fully justified. Oh, and my Converse, at £25 for my low tops, but I wear them all the time in the autumn/spring.
I think that's it otherwise though, I don't really own any expensive things (this is what comes from being a student, all my clothes are cheap!).
ETA: I also had a pair of black Rocket Dog boots that were about £70 or £80 and were a Christmas present two years ago. I wore them constantly for two winters and they were great for keeping out rain and cold, so I think I might ask for some for my birthday..."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
As some of you will already know I have a huge bag collection, I'm not even going to add it all up :eek:so apart from the bags my most expensive piece would be my Armani trouser suit cost £1300 about 3 years ago, it is nice but not really my style and was bought for a specific occasion when I needed to look super smart, its dark beige and classic cut and has been worn once
I will keep it forever as it wont date but pound for pound I get much better value from everything else in my wardrobe, just out of interest the occasion I needed it for went exactly the way I wanted it to, was that down to the suit? Who knows but I believe it was a wise purchase:)
Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -

Mmmm. I sometimes wonder (when I despair at having no wardrobe space) if I should buy fewer, but more expensive, items.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I have a tailored suit that cost me 2.5K, it fits beautifully, and always gives me a huge boost of confidence when I wear it.
I feel it was worth the investment. Would love some handmade shoes, but will stick with Jeffrey West shoes for now.0 -
My French connection jeans £34 only worn a couple of times. They're miles too long so as soon as I get them taken up I will wear them. Same with my Yanuk jeans, miles and miles too long!
I've decluttered my wardrobe so I don't have these expensive mistakes leering at me any more! One thing that didn't sell on ebay was my green ball gown with diamantes. I love it but wouldn't be brave enough to wear it again. So £35 for one wear.
I do have a pair of Clarks black leather boots that I bought last year for £65 and it took me weeks to get up the courage to part with that amount of cash for them. They saw me through the winter though and will do many more winters to come. I do need to give them a good polish though!
Oh and my wedding dress. £295.99. Worn once. Now what do I do with it. It's hanging from the bannisters at the moment until I decide.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
