  • Actually the points listed by an earlier poster pretty much include those from the google doc.

    Suggest "Any genuine written quotation"

100% better and it looks completely functional and uncomplicated. The other design had ambiguous navigation.. I like it alot
couldnt agree more! thanks for the input. I did like the old site but it was too complicated and big wig looking! as they say, whats the point in having the best site in the world if nobody see's it and it brings no custom.

To be very truthfull, the old site has had many visits but in approx 9 months, i have had a dozen enquiries, of which a couple materialised. Compare this to the input into the site (the build and my countless hours playing with seo and content) is very poor/a loss!

will mention it - thanks. the designer will be joining in soon and will put the idea forward. I had thought about this on the old site. i doubt anyone will have the cheek to print out a fake quote but you never know. Be a lot of hassle and obviously the client will think i wont be wanting to contact my competetor's to check its genuine however, just adding the word genuine will let them know im up on any scams.
    thanks.

Another idea i have read elsewhere...offer maybe 5% discount if the invoice is settled within 3 working days. Generally, im paid upon finishing a job/same day so doesnt really count to me. It does cost me to pay cheques in though.
Maybe it would be an incentive to potential clients to give them a discount if they order the work online with me instead but the issue is, they will be contacting many trades as they obviously have no contacts to hand if they are searching the web.

any ideas? looks un-pro to ask for cash but if it gives a discount?
  • Hi guys

We realise the original aim was for help on building a website, we do need to ask that you don't make the website name identifiable, as it's getting very close to advertising.

    Thanks!

    Andrea :)

The link seems to have been removed so I can't go look.

The site is one of many, most built from templates ...so if you haven't already, add a gallery of real pics of work done (and before after shots work best).

Find some DIY, anything related forums...go there and add some advice for free and help the folk, and have your site in your sig or in your name even.
In the US it's very common for tradesmen to have simple tutorials and videos on Youtube linked to their sites explaining basics, they work well because people feel they know and trust you better even without meeting you.

http://www.videojug.com is an example of how simple they can be.

Wiring a plug is nothing to you, but to someone who didn't feel confident it makes YOU their mate in the trade who helped them out.

sad about the link ...would have been nice to have a look.

building seo website is good choice
  • ok, so above is the site that we intend to make live and possibly some text adjustments. Apperently the designer says he has contacted MSE and has been given permission to repost the image without contact details. Sorry been a way for a while but e few asked to see the new seo friendly site. The current is still live at www.m-t-i.co.uk for comparison.

    thanks, martin
