Hi, thanks for the help! i can confirm that the first string you wrote has done the trick perfectly! i thought i had tried this but there must of been a mistake in it or variation that escaped. Huge thanks!0 -
now i have the blog kind of setup in a fashion and im looking to start uploading information. Because its my personal business site and my potential clients will visit, i also need the posts to be related and informative for them aswell as search engine optimization.
my new problem is i dont know where to start haha! i started a blog page and have no idea what to do with it lol!
Please can anyone give me any generic pointers what so ever? anything will be considered most appreciated.
everything i want to talk about seems to be copyrighted. well, when i say copyrighted on other sites, what i mean is i have good ideas for subjects but im checking out my competitiors and manufacturers sites for ideas and of how they relate to information. i have so far spent about two hours trying to prepare a page and everything i mention looks 'stolen'. i know much about my subjects but dont know where to start. although im not marketing them etc, im afraid to mention lots of details. i wrote a page just now as mentioned and when i compared it to another highly listed site, it looked identicle! this cant be good but many sites and blogs have very badly listed subject information and too much 'lazy use' of words and content.
is there anyway way of utilising other sites information which is just informative of a method or product? thin i need to do my research as many mention auto updating feeds etc? means nothing to me and i dont have the time to spend every evening updating new information as my line of work is physical and not online based. sorry if im rambling. ill attempt to lay out some better questions for you all0 -

Using Alexa is rubbish.. the metrics are drawn from users sending live data via the Alexa toolbar.. so the holes in this are:
1. everyone does not use Alexa.. (it is used moreso in the USA than the UK)
2. people avoid using the toolbar as it records the sites they visit, and sends this data to Alexa (actually Amazon)
3. Alexa can be manipulated0 -

thanks. ok, so we have two views on this already and im sure there will be more to follow. thanks for your input and your reasons seem strong. ill check it out but at the moment it means nothing to me. some auto updating stuff would be good but i reckon it terms of relevance and spam, this could end up less hassle than its worth0 -

I guess the blog may have some ideas in there for website promotion, but nothing that is not available from other sources. I find when you get into the mindset of viewing Google PR and Alexa, it becomes an obsession, it is better to add decent content, make your site friendly in SEO terms aswell as for visitors to your site, and eventually people will find their way to you.0 -
Hello martin28scot,
I can see where your going wrong with the SEO, I've just typed in electrician in leeds found you on page 13 of google, Page 12 using the uk search only,
<meta name="description" content="Electrician and electricians in leeds. ?
Try Electrician in Leeds, Covering Leeds, (add a few more descriptive words here) Not too many though, You'll need to add more about Electrician and leeds on your main page,
Now you seem to have the exact <meta name="description" content=" on every page, You don't need that,
On your other pages ie: media & entertainment you need to change it to something that actually relates to that,
Also you need to move <meta name="keywords" content="leeds, electrician, electricians so it's below the <meta name="description" content=" always have this just below the title
Just to give you a idea i run a site for phobia sufferers, Now my Agoraphobia link looks like this.. <title>Agoraphobia Support Agoraphobia Help, Agoraphobia Chat Room, more key words here (not going to add them all lol)
<meta name="description" content="Agoraphobia Chat, Agoraphobia Help, (same again more key words)
Now google agoraphobia chat
I do not use the same title or description for the panic attacks link i use key words that i think people would search for,
This is what you need to do on all of your page, Hope this is of some help, A bit of free SEO
If you do google Agoraphobia chat it's at the top of google so have a look around and look at the source on each page to give you a idea of title and description.0 -
strange-if i type in 'electrician leeds' on uk google search, i find myself on page six? not page 12? yesterday it was on page 5 and last week, page 2! its becoming really annoying now. im getting organic type in traffic too - well not much and some of the searches im not bothered for. i do have awstats in my cpanel and find it very informative. ill have a look at your site sources and try to put your advice to practice. as mentioned, i know very little about seo and html so im going in blind but learning. so far, i have tinkered with the templates i was given originally from my designer however, my designer does not get involved with seo etc.
your information has been a big help! thank you so much and hopefully ill get my seo and content sorted so that i can instruct my designer to refurb my site accordingly. still not got around to it as money is tight this week.
kindest regards, martin0 -

Basically, people will type in electrician and electricianS. im trying to get my options opened up for rankings

i would only be using the word electrician and not electricians? also repeating leeds twice?
Now you seem to have the exact <meta name="description" content=" on every page, You don't need that,
Do i still need 'description' but what you are saying is, i one descrition uses 'electrician leeds' then none of the others need to? my problem is and i know, people type in things like 'electrician fit plasma tv' because they know we are capable of this (well, most!) and that there is wiring involved etc for audio, visual and power etc.
On your other pages ie: media & entertainment you need to change it to something that actually relates to that,
Also you need to move <meta name="keywords" content="leeds, electrician, electricians so it's below the <meta name="description" content=" always have this just below the title
Why is this please? nobody has ever mentioned this but will take your word for it and have a go. I just assumed if it was incorrect area ie: things in head, body, footer etc then all is well? do these references relate to H1,H2 etc? my pages dont list these although im aware they exist.

Does anyone have any idea how long it can take for google to update my data etc in relation to my result listings? sorry, i meant to say, if i change my descriptions and keywords etc, how long does it take for google to pick up on these?
i notice google is crawling my pages on something like 7-10 days and my indexing is up and down like a yo-yo. i think many people are having their sites redone due to new financial year etc.
also, my pages say revisit after so many days (i think originally these said 5 days) and i have changed them to 2 days for an experiment. what do these actually do and will i get penalised if google revisits and there is no change of content etc?0 -
Although my site is referring to myself only, ie: 'electrician' and not several 'electricians', where can i add the word 'electricians' for search results? is this in keywords, description or site content? i dont really want it in site content although i do know of ways to sneakily add it. If my site does not relate to 'several electricians etc' then will this affect me in a search result for the word 'electricians'? sorry if im rambling!0
