Perhaps your old age is causing problems in your comprehension abilities?
If your memory was up to it you'd clearly recall my saying that passengers would be coralled closely to the plane as opposed to being able to roam freely around the ramp. You disputed that. You were wrong then, and you're wrong now.
My comprehension is fine, perhaps you're attack is a diversionary tactic so we won't notice the Ryanair pom poms?

The point is that neither you nor I know how Ryanair intend to implement it. They may very well not be kept close to the plane, but rather to congregate somewhere else. You don't know this at all, and neither do I.
Then again, there's a reason that Michael O'Leary is fantastically wealthy and people are posting on a money saving website. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

Maybe, but then it stops being planeside drop off and collection of baggage. Either it's planeside or it's not.
And MOL deserves to be rich as there's no question he's a clever entrepreneur.0 -
It doesn't really. Currently when a flight is boarded from the front and from the rear, a crude rope barrier is put up, attached to a moveable weight to keep it taut. The purpose of this is not only for passenger safety but security as well and keeps people away from the engines and wheels.
It wouldn't take much more effort to extend this around to the other side, using similar ropes and weights to create a 'fence' around the plane. Conveyor belts used to take luggage into the hold can adjust their angle to allow baggage to be dropped close to passengers.
This type of setup would possibly smooth operations; for example, if all baggage carriers had to board at the back, then on boarding, they would walk to the left side of the aircraft, dump their bags, and walk around the back or the aircraft and board at the rear doors. The people that travel without would go to the right, and board at the front. On landing, those at the back could simply wait until the bags started to leave the plane, which could probably be arranged with no delay.
In fact, if it was done correctly, those with hold bags would not take that much longer to board, and there would be no (or little) congregation.
Having large numbers of passengers on an airfield was a concern when the airwalks were taken off, like they could not be trusted not to mess about. Time has shown that these fears were unfounded, most people just want to board or leave.
Another downside is security. There are items that are acceptable in hold baggage that are prohibited in hand baggage. Someone could easily transfer items whilst waiting onto their person, and this would seem impossible to prevent.
Another downside is the cost issue. Hold baggage is still a demerit service for Ryanair, used by people who don't have any alternative, and charged accordingly. It would never be free, simply because in the worst case scenario, an extra couple of tons of weight would be added, and over the long run there would be a fuel cost for that. So there would be still be a charge to carry hold luggage, and I reckon it would be pretty close to what they charge now anyway.....0
