Is it true about Ryan Air..

Are baggage handlers employed by the airline direct or the airport?
I think it's be a great idea, like dmg said you carry your luggage anyway to the airport and it means baggage would be free. Even so, would doing this give them more money than charges for baggage and excess baggage do now?0 -
Likely to be mainly a stunt - it won't be allowed at any major UK airport for example.
Won't it?
That would be why the Ministry of Transport have already stated on the record that they have no objection to it, provided the luggage complies with security screening regulations?Mailonsunday wrote:The Department for Transport said last night that provided all the baggage was security-checked and screened, it would be up to Ryanair to negotiate the detail with airport operators.

By the airport. Considering all the problems with baggage handlers (going on strike, missing cases, etc etc) - this could actually be revolutionary for the airline industry. Certainly, there would be no more problems with baggage going missing - which would make Ryanair incredibly appealling for many people. Certainly, the potential for theft would be greatly reduced - and would in fact make hold luggage very secure. From Poland...with love.

More likely that BA will cease trading, what with asking staff to work for nothing...From Poland...with love.

Wouldn't it then become a case of if the airport say no then Ryanair have to go along with that?
Because from a logistics sense, it would cause a nightmare at security, unless there is someway to bypass this. Or a special Ryanair queue! Then the airports would get worried about longer queues at security, and tell Ryanair it's not feasible. So then if Ryanair persisted the airport could tell them they're not making anymore flights from there.
It seems to me that it's more down to the airport than Ryanair about if this would go ahead and like they're trying to make the airline other than cabin staff...completely people free.0 -
Yeah...give it 10 yrs...they'll have robots flying the planes lol.

I can't see this taking on in major airports such as Manchester but in reality the smaller hubs that are reliant on Ryanir will have no option than to bend over backwards and do whatever they are asked to do!
If it takes off though I can see carnage at the destination as everyone scrambles through a pile of suitcases0 -
If this came to pass it would be another reason to avoid Ryanair.0

Ryanair are very well known for telling airports to either take it or leave it - and in the case of airports where Ryanair are a huge customer, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up agreeing to it. They might have more difficulty in places like Madrid or Gatwick - but places like Prestwick would have very little room to say 'no' for fear of losing their Ryanair flights.old_motters wrote:If this came to pass it would be another reason to avoid Ryanair.
Shows what little you know, doesn't it?
The fact that Ryanair will be able to advertise the fact that your luggage is taken to and from the plane by yourself is a massive selling point - how many people suffer lost luggage? Enough. To have the peace of mind that your bag is taken to/from the plane with absolutely no worries - this is absolutely priceless. From Poland...with love.
