Milkmen - They can be cheaper

Ive cancelled my milk for the moment as he is coming later and later and on average is about 4pm on the 2 days I have 2 pints delivered and its not a suitable time for us.
I still have my account open and if I need a top up etc, I can add online but 4pm is ridiculous for us. I have called the HO but the milkman cant deliver earlier.
I am all for supporting our milkman but why s he coming so late each time?

Sorry to take so long to answer your questions. I dont mind you asking at all. He delivers 6 days a week inc bank holidays but on one of the days does newspapers only so its just half a day really. It is full time so no second job. He tries to go to bed by about 9pm if possible and usually has a nap in the afternoon for an hour or 2, any longer and he wouldn't sleep at night. He starts at 1.45am 3 days a week and about 3.30am the rest of the time.
He was a milkman years ago when our children were little and also did many years on a permanant night shift at a soft drinks factory so he's used to it.
Thanks taplady - my hat is off to him. I would not be capable of doing that for one week now let alone for years.
Do you have to alter your lifestyle then in order to do 'couple things' - I was out last night with friends in the pub and we were only meeting up at 8.30PM but that is just about the time your hubby, and I presume you also, are drinking the horlicks and getting ready for bed?
I hope he takes enough breaks and that you all get away on a hol every now and then. Maybe he is one of these people who is 'geared' towards working at nights rather than days. Apparently some of us are. This is not financial nor legal nor property advice. Consult a paid professional if in doubt.0 -

We dont tend to go out much and I am an early bird anyway so like going to bed early. We try to go out for the day on a Sunday when I'm not at work and as i work shifts we quite often go shopping in the weekday afternoons on my days off. He cant drink due to medication but I do wish he'd rest more.
PP - I can understand why you cancelled, 4pm is really unacceptable. My DH is always home by midday at the latest.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
I've had milk delivered for the past week and am very pleased with the service so far. I love the OJ and fruit cocktail but it's pricey at 93p a bottle....shame.
I'm not familiar with milkman rules, is it ok to leave a cool box on the doorstep with a little note to ask him to pop the delivery in there? I'm hoping for nice cold milk after a lie-in!:p0 -

I wish someone had shaken me by the shoulders a few years ago and told me to slow down and not work so much. Apparently the only way that most Human Beings communicate is for someone to sit down in front of them, take hold of their hands, look them in the eye and tell them what is on their mind.
I hope he slows down and you both have wonderful happy years ahead. This is not financial nor legal nor property advice. Consult a paid professional if in doubt.0 -

40p is pretty good value but our local milkmen here charge 49p a pint. We normally buy our milk when reduced to about 10p a pint then freeze it. I do the same with bread and always get the best shop loaves (Warburtons, Kingsmill and Hovis) for no more than 30p a loaf.

I'm sorry I haven't had chance to read all pages so apologies if this has been answered, how do you find a milkman? I've wanted one for ages but never see any round here (and live on a green belt too!)
Thanks
