  • I wish the milkman here was as cheap as it is where all of you guys are!! It costs about £1.20 per pint here! I thought I was just being picky and saying it was more expensive but compared to the rates you've all said, I think he really does charge too much!

Are you sure its £1.20 for one pint??? I thought it was expensive at 58p per pint where I am. Where do you live?

Yeah, we did get a leaflet thing from the milkman about it a whle ago. I think it may have actually been £1.15 per pint, not £1.20 actually but it's still pretty high. I think the orange juice was £1.20. I live in Norfolk. Apparently it's always been a lot higher with that milkman and he's the only one that delivers to my village.

I've been getting an Abel and Cole veg box for a few months now and added 2l of organic milk to my order last week.

The milk was the best I've ever tasted - reading the label I realised it was from Guernsey cows. I love Channel Islands milk but normally avoid it due to the fat content but Abel and Cole do skim and semi-skim versions which are amazing! Its a bit more expensive at £1.87 for 2l but worth every penny.

I wish the milkman would deliver this kind of milk as I'd like to support local businesses and get glass bottles but haven't been able to find it anywhere else:confused:

I'm going to start getting a delivery of juice and flavoured milk from Dairy Crest anyway but the regular milk will have to be from A&C.

Also, how does anyone find those milk-minder containers? Do they work if the milk ends up out all day?
My milkman delivers Channel Island milk in glass 1 pint bottles 63p/pint.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I think my milkies great. I order and pay every month now via milk&more.com so as if I need to change order at last minute I can.(as long as before 9pm)

It's not so much the money with me - I like the convenience of knowing my pint is there every morning and as I don't drive, every little less in my shopping bag helps.

I don't get how some people on here use so much milk though??? I get 7 pints a week for me and 2 boys - only Ds2 has cereal as eldest makes his own toast and we sometimes have boiled eggs if I get up a tad earlier. I saw that one poster has 6 pints a day:eek::eek::eek: where does it all go? We'd all be fatter than houses if we drank that much!!!

Mine does too and its lovely but the fat content is through the roof, I wish a skim or semi-skim version was available from the milkman.

taplady, may I ask whether your hubby is a milkman full-time - you mentioned he gets up some days at 1.15AM to do his round - so does he have a second job or is the nature of his round such that, like others have stated on her, the milkman now only delivers 2 or 3 times a week as opposed to the daily deliveries that most of us remember from our childhood?

Effectively your DH is working night-shifts most of the time - doesn't that restrict what you can do during the days. I mean, when does he sleep - is it when he gets back in from the round so sleeps from early morning to afternoon or does he go to bed early in the afternoon to get 8 hours before he gets up at 1.15AM?

I hope you don't think I am being rude in asking but just curious - nurses, police officers, etc, usually do not work constantly on nights but from reading on here I get the impression that milkmen effectively are?

Sorry to take so long to answer your questions. I dont mind you asking at all. He delivers 6 days a week inc bank holidays but on one of the days does newspapers only so its just half a day really. It is full time so no second job. He tries to go to bed by about 9pm if possible and usually has a nap in the afternoon for an hour or 2, any longer and he wouldn't sleep at night. He starts at 1.45am 3 days a week and about 3.30am the rest of the time.
He was a milkman years ago when our children were little and also did many years on a permanant night shift at a soft drinks factory so he's used to it.

Our household gets through more than 4 pints a day, there are two adults and two teens. We all eat cereal, drink a lot of tea and coffee and sometimes plain old milk, my son especially. It's semi skimmed and not particularly fattening. I also sometimes use it in desserts for instance if I make custard or bread and butter pud. So you can see it really isn't that difficult to get through a pint per person in a day!

We have 4 pints delivered on a Monday, then 3 on a Friday ( my Milky only comes those 2 days now) then I usually have at least 2 4 pint cartons from the supermarket as well. Sometimes more.

Alot depends on whether I'm doing hot milky drinks or cold milk shakes as well as the usual cereal each morning and sometimes supper, and I use powdered for cooking.

When I was pg with DS2 I was drinking 4 pints each day myself just as milk never mind what was being used otherwise.

    This is for 2 adults and 2 boys 1 teen 1 pre-teen.

My friend who has 5 boys aged 8 - 15 uses minimum 8 pints daily so that could explain the quantity.
