I find store bought milk goes off quicker than the stuff from my milky. He delivers come rain or shine before work and when I get back off my holidays there is always bread, butter, orange juice and milk waiting on the doorstep. It's marvellous - I know it's expensive but it's marvellous.Well behaved women rarely make history.0

I do have a milkman and yes i think it's expensive and he doesn't come until 10.30 most days but......he's close to retiring and i don't want him to lose his job so i keep having milk from him (but i do buy 4 pints a week from the supermarket). My husband tells me i'm mad!0

We get milk delivered from a local dairy farm - without fail it's there every morning (it's always there for 6am). The milk is more expensive than the supermarket but it tastes better and I know where it comes from. The farmer's wife even asks how thick you like your cream and will churn it extra thick if you ask nicely. I also don't have to think about recycling the plastic bottles that build up from supermarket milk.
I think it saves me money in the long term, because I make less trips to the supermarket. How many times have you gone in for some milk and come out with tons of things you don't really need?!GC May £178/£250 NSD0 -
im a bit of a 'horses for courses' person. i like to get papers from the paper shop and milk from the milkman, i know its 8p dearer a pint getting it delivered but it helps keep someone in a job and allows the seniors on our estate that rely on doorstep deliveries to keep their daily pinta.SPC~12 ot 124

We have a pint a day delivered (unsure how much it is) . he leaves 2 on saturday for saturday and sunday. He puts a bill thru every month with SAE for me to post him a cheque. I also have a window cleaner, and paper boy delivers me local paper once a week on a friday and my take a break on thurs. I like to think that I support local businesses even if I dont spend huge amounts0

Ooooh, i'd love to have that option!!!
I get mine from Mr T as its only a 5 minute walk away, and my toddler is allergic to normal milk so has to have soya, which my local milkman has told me he doesnt do.
If he did, then i would support him without hesitation.0 -
I know I'm paying more by getting our milk delivered but I like it in glass bottles, saves recycling all the plastic, tastes better too. Our milkman was here on Monday in 6" snow - the refuse and recycling service is suspended until the roads are clear. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

i enquired a couple of days ago about getting milk delivered, mainly due to the recycling as we use 6pts a day ( 4 children under 8) but he only delivers 3 times a week, oh i can just imagine him trying to carry 12/18 bottles so i was a bit disappointed, did notice there sugar was 8p cheaper than supermarkets and hovis about 2p cheap.xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

Our milkman couldnt deliver Monday or today.

I have just stoped are milk man as i needed to make some savings it cost almost £1 more each week which is £50 a year ( i need it) I have had my milk delivered for 3yrs now and i thank himmm very much as it was i life line to me ( due to my health problems i find it hard to get arround). He used to bring me eggs , yogurt, fresh juice, bacon, potatoes and bread, most of which are cheeper in the supermarkets so my savings will be much bigger( i hope).
my OH moved in after xmas so he can shop!
Its great to support local bussness tho and after reading some of the posts on here it has given me an idea. If me and OH swich to U.H.T milk, as we only have it in tea/coffee we can have the milk man back for my son 1pt x4 per week. Win Win ????
hope so and Thanks for the info and the different points of view i never looked at it from the milkmans point of view before.
thanks again0
