We think he may be deaf because he bangs and clatters about and always needs to 'rearrange' the van outside our house! His van has no markings or signs on it so we don't know which dairy he comes from. This has been driving us mad for a while. The people he delivers to don't know where he comes from either - they just leave out the money!!
How can they not know??? The bill they leave behind should have the name and everything on it - mine certainly does. Both my milkmans name and the dairy he works on behalf of.
Ask them to leave him a note with the payment next time - or leave him one yoursel fon a HUGE cardboard sign " DEAR MILKMAN- WE'RE TRYING TO SLEEP, PLEASE BE QUIET"

Some 15 years ago i used to be a milkman in an old clapped out diesel transit although I used to "rearrange" my van in places where there werent any houses. i used to leave the van running as it was a pig to start ,one road i delivered to at 2.30 am the guy from a house shouted out of his window can you turn that bloo*y van off we are trying to sleep. So the next day when I got to that road I did as i was told and turned it off. After a couple of minutes of churning over and rattling it eventually started .The next day there was a note left out saying "PLEASE LEAVE THE VAN RUNNING DONT TURN IT OFF AGAIN THANK YOU !!!0 -
Used to have a milkman but he only came 2 days a week and with 2 littles in the house not enough room in the fridge to keep the amount of milk we need, so used to have to top up from shops. Plus somedays he did not turn up until after DH had left for work so no milk for cereal either!
All in all it worked out very expensive, unreliable and not time saving as had to go to shops for top ups.0 -
We have a milkman. I don't drive and it saves me having to carry the milk from the supermarket which is a mile away.We live halfway up a hill in the Peak District but he has never failed to get through with the milk even on the rare occasions when we've had heavy snow .0

I would like to have a milkman who delivers early. The current milkman for the area delivers after 8:30am, long after I have gone to work.
So if he delivered earlier, I would certainly consider getting my milk supplies from him/her.If you are at a poker game and you cannot figure out who is the patsy then guess what...you're the patsy - Warren Buffet0 -
Have never had a bill from ours with name etc on. With the price edited my post, I get 8 pints for £3.One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Hi redballon,
There's another thread on this so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

We have one pint of milk delivered and half a dozen eggs every Monday. As others have said it's nice to know there's a pint on the doorstep waiting, I've got a Co-op at the end of the road so top up from there (milk delivered by the Co-op as well!). I just like to support doorstep deliveries and help keep the milkman in a job. Have jut started having an organic veg box every week as well, but not sure I'll keep this up as it is quite expensive - will see how it goes.0

If it costs the farmer, say, 50p to produce, bottle & deliver a pint of milk, what is it that the supermarket is doing to get it on the shelf for only 28p
Cheaper product? Lower quality? imported and produced to unknown standards?
I think, in many cases, you get what you pay for. What are you getting for 28p per pint?
its the same milk, the supermarkets dictate to the farmer how much they will pay, rather than the farmer say how much he needs for it. Most farms produce milk at a loss, the only thing that keeps diary farmers going is the Government subsidies. if they didnt get those, there wouldnt be any milk production in this country.
At least if you are buying your milk direct from the dairy, then the farmer can charge a price, that is realistic.

My milkman guarantees delivery by 6.30am. We have two pints a day (Mon-Sat), and it's brilliant knowing that I won't run out of milk. If I've got to much, I just leave a note cancelling one pint or both, If I need more, I leave a note.
He delivers loads of other stuff too (eggs, potatoes, squash, juice, lemonade, actimel, yoghurt, cheese, cream, veg boxes, the list goes on and on and on), but the only other thing we get from him is a 24 pack of Felix pouches on a Monday morning. Another godsend...we only used to go to a supermarket (or get a delivery) when we were running out of cat food.
He's more expensive than a supermarket, but in the scheme of things it's not a lot of money. I would rather pay a fair price for my milk anyway.
How can it be right that milk (from cows, which need feeding and managing and milking) is sold for less than water??0
