I think a pints around 49-52p from the milkman, and you can pick up a 6 pinter in the supermarket for around £1.65

  • Our milkman lives in the village & we pass the cows that produce the milk everyday but I stopped getting deliveries because of the taste of the milk not the cost. I could taste the twang of the slurry they use to fertilise the fields & because we often smell it around the village I couldn't quite cope with the taste in my daily cuppa! Shame because I hate buying plastic cartons as they seem to make the majority of my recycling plus I am very keen to support british farmers as sometimes cheap is just not ethical. Rx

We have a milkman. He delivers 2 pints on Tuesdays & Thursdays and 3 pints with 1pt of oganic apple juice on a Saturday.

Yes it is a little dearer getting it delivered like that, but a) it saves me time having to go to the local shop and spend the same amount OR using petrol to get to the nearest supermarket and b) there's no panic about not having enough milk.

For me, having 2 pints delivered to my doorstep is FAR cheaper than me going into a shop and having lots of other things on display.... :)

Hmm - that is quite a lot dearer. I'd probably be OK about it if it was a matter of a few pence, but that's nearly twice the price. Still - I'll check it out to make sure I guess.

i have a milkman. same chap for 3 years.although i did stop for a bit/. but it nice knowing i have fresh milk on the doorstep.

it a godsend in one way as i'm not the type of person who can go to shop just for mnilk. i end up spending a fourtune. so although milk a bit dearer it does help me save in long run.

Also my little girl loves collecting the milk in the morning. sometimes i get extras from him. which is a bit dearer, but i like getting things delivered.

Its only dearer because the supermarkets have been cutting the price of milk for years knowing it gets us to come into the shop. I remember the price going down to 99p for 4pints which is when we stopped having it delivered.
We are back to deliveries now as I try not to use the supermarkets & as we only use a little its nice not to have to make a special trip to get it - we have a pint every other day (Mon, Weds & Fri)
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

I've just changed out milkman order to non organic as I am havign to tighten the belt until I find a new job... it may not be a huge saving but we consume about £20 worth of organic milk a month at the moment... So changing to non-organic will make I guessabout a £5 saving if not more. I could change to Mr T but I want to support the milkman still as much as I can... they're a dying breed :(

Something to think about ... for you all .... it rather depends where your conscience lies :o

If it costs the farmer, say, 50p to produce, bottle & deliver a pint of milk, what is it that the supermarket is doing to get it on the shelf for only 28p :confused::confused:

Cheaper product? Lower quality? imported and produced to unknown standards?

I think, in many cases, you get what you pay for. What are you getting for 28p per pint?

  • The people across the road from us have a milkman - and I wish they didn't!! He calls on them at 3am in a very old clapped out delivery van which makes a hell of a noise and wakes us and our neighbours. We think he may be deaf because he bangs and clatters about and always needs to 'rearrange' the van outside our house! His van has no markings or signs on it so we don't know which dairy he comes from. This has been driving us mad for a while. The people he delivers to don't know where he comes from either - they just leave out the money!!
