Milkmen - They can be cheaper

This has been discussed before, I'm sure. I would love to have milk delivered but we go through 6 pints a day so the cost is prohibitive. I buy 5x 6pints on shopping day. This lasts five days - teenage sons are sent to pick up another couple in the week.
Like you, I used to find those trips to top up the milk would cost more than planned. You could try just going in with enough cash for the milk to stop yourself. Or freeze milk. I used to do this - the kids complained but if it was frozen milk or no milk, they'd use it. You have to be organised because it's best if it defrosts slowly.0

Sorry, when I read the title of this thread, I thought you were meaning something else. I was wondering just how "fit" your milkman was:rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

i think it partly depends on who youre milkman is, ours is actuallly no more expensive than the supermarket. i also have a delivery of an organic veg box (not from the milkman ) and although this is much more expensive than supermarket veg it DOES (usually) stop me nipping in for a bag of carrots that ends up costing £20!! ) and although this is much more expensive than supermarket veg it DOES (usually) stop me nipping in for a bag of carrots that ends up costing £20!!
i do find if you have veg & milk delivered and make your own bread theres no real need to 'pop to tesco's' (i still do though sometimes ) - prior planning prevents poor performance! ) - prior planning prevents poor performance!

I have my milk delivered (6 pints per week) 2 pts each delivery. I realise it is more than Mr T's, but it keeps the local supply to the elderly in our area and the milk is always lovely and fresh. The dairy is very responsive for changes like going on holiday or additional milk requests.
 And in real bottles!
 Hope this helps!

            right, decision made :T
i am going to get it delivered and see how it goes.:o
i have placed my order online with dairy crest, and they are going to deliver my organic milk in glass bottles (hooray!) starting on Monday.
67p a pint...hmm, not bad if it stops the 'extras'. I'm trying 11 pints a week to see how that goes, then can add/reduce as i need to. so milk for the week will be 7.47, less than one 'random' purchase spree that includes things like reduced cakes! should help with the weight loss to then!!!!;)
 thanks y'all

            I had milk delivered for almost a year 4 pints twice a week @ 50p a pint = £4.
At first this was fine and I paid cash or cheque each time the bill was put through the door (4 weekly).
The company changed its billing method and wanted direct debit in advance, but I held out for cheques in arrears as this was the arrangement when I had started.
I was glad I had done this when milk was removed/ not delivered - this happened twice in about 8 weeks. I reported the loss each time and was told that the bill would be adjusted.
Unfortunately, the milk bill was not adjusted promptly -twice, then the order was muddled when we were on holiday even though I had cancelled it in writing (good job I had a copy)... to cut a long story short I wrote to them to stop delivering, paid the final bill and got a receipt.
The milk delivery took a week to stop - despite my phone calls- so I left it outside with a copy of my letter closing the account. It was a waste of good milk but I did not know what else to do!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0

I would never be without my milk delivery. Although it is more expensive I know that I am so disorganised I would run out all the time and have to run out to the shops before work. My milk is there on the doorstep everyday at 6 o'clock. I know some people who's milkman brings 4 pint container every few day. Would not do this as it would be just as easy to go the shops.
I agree that if you also make your bread trips to the supermarket can be reduced to once a week, and this has saved me a fortune.0
