Milkmen - They can be cheaper

Is anyone else having problems with Dairy Crest? I placed an order with them on the 24th March and they confirmed it by which an email which had my first delivery date of Saturday 29th March, well that delivery never arrived and this weeks one hasn't arrived and I can't get any response form Dairy Crest?
Is it just me? I decided to start ordering milk from the milkman on the strength of this thread which made me realise how important it is that we don't lose the milkman and that we should support them. But it's impossible for me to support them when the Milk just doesn't arrive!

well my Dair Crest delivery has had the odd let down - but to tell the truth it promted me to canx yesterday because I thought although it's very green to avoid all the plastic bottles, it isn't very MSE as my milkman charges more than the supermarkets .... I will just have to walk to the recycling instead of driving and then i will have a clear conscience! ... but I will really miss the clink of bottles on the doorstep and ice cold bottles, glistening with dew ... aah well.Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale - Hans Christian Andersen2012 savings:remortgage £156.15pcm £5 pcm insurance reduced; 2012 Running totals: £10 goodwill requests/Grocery Coupons £12:T0

Well, Mrs Moneyspinner - you cancelled in time! Dairycrest has now put the price of milk up to 59p PER PINT!! Nearly double that in supermarkets. Whilst I don't like the plastic bottles, and want to keep my milk "local" I have now been forced to cancel....which is a shame. I will try to find another (more reasonable!) local supplier, but until then, it's off to nasty Mr T's.....:A FLY FIRST, KNIT LATER :A0

Yes, I got a note this morning saying they were putting prices up by 4p a pint (to 58p a pint for me). I think my local Aldi sells 4 pint bottles for £1.30, so sadly I may now seriously think about ditching the milkman.Stompa0 -
I have had the milkman deliver for the last 3 weeks - it was something that I have been thinking about for a while and having them come round all the houses to canvas for more customers as the round was failing due to lack of people ordering gave me the spur to start...
however.. the milk is 58p/pint which my dh isn't happy about as we are on a tight budget but I don't like paying the supermarkets, I prefer the glass bottles and I want to support the local smaller providers
and...
if I cancel cause I have overordered (we vary what we use each week).. I still have to pay for what I ordered - yes I understand why but I cann't afford to pay for what we don't need.....
I may have to stop the deliveries and go back to the supermarket

All i can say is our milky is fab, usually the milk is here when I get home from work in the wee small hours - perhaps my milkman doesn't like early mornings so does it before he goes to bed?!
I know it's loads more expensive than the supermarket, but it stops me popping out for a pint and spending a fortune on other bits and bobs!
Yategirl, can you not put your order down as low as poss, to the min amount that you'd use in a week, then just increase your order sometimes? Or do they not allow you to do that?GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
we have a delivery 3 days a week and I've been concerned about the cost, its about £13 a week  as we have organic milk for the kids and they drink gallons.
We always get a delivery on saturday morning, and i always have a supermarket delivery on friday evening, so i thought if i cancel the saturday milk delivery , which is the big one, and get milk delivered with my supermarket shop, then I am reducing the price of my milk, but still getting the convenience etc of the doorstep delivery during the week and also still supporting my milkman (I use a small local dairy) all of which is important to me.
seems like the best of all worlds0 -

Good luck Yategirl, hope it works ok!
We have a pint a day delivered, which in reality means that we get 2 pints on Mon and Wed, and 3 on Fri. This small amount means that at least we can have a cup of tea in the morning! We go through huge amounts of milk and I buy more when I am in the supermarket, as opposed to going out just for milk and then coming back with other stuff! But I figure that the pint a day bit also helps support our milkman.GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Have Dairy crest not explained the price rise ? fuel costs in the last year have increased dramatically as will have energy costs in production, i very much doubt that your local supermarket would deliver milk to your door for less than a milky(no delivery charges), the fact of the matter is that Dairy crest as a company have a duty in reporting to sharholders so can clearly only absorb so many increased costs.0
