With respect, it wasn't Martin's 'tip' at all. Here's the original posting that was subsequently picked up for inclusion in the newsletter:

What a bummer! I don't drink wine....and even if I did, I can never find anything in the Clubcard Deals that I want ....apart from a magazine subscription for my Mother .

Thank you thank you thank you!
Today I changed £15 of clubcard vouchers for £30 to spend on wine, then bought 6 bottles of the £10.99 cava for £49ish and got 1854 points. So for £19 I got 6 bottles of nice cava plus 354 points (the guy gave me 5 green points!) PLUS a voucher for 5 clubcard points per litre of fuel purchased, Bargain, am very pleased!!

please forgive me, I'm also having trouble with this,
I cant work out how the 900 points change into 3600 points. I'm under the impression that the points are only worth 4 times the amount due to the fact that deals are sold so cheap. In which case 900 points would only be worth £9. still nice as I'm saving for merlin passes but not quite the £36 that could buy me one anyway. please help

This is how I understand it -
    1 bottle = 150 points
    6 bottles = 900 points
    900 points x 4 (to reach deal value) = 3600 points

If the deal you're swapping your points for is restaurants, days out etc. then your 900 points gives you £36 to spend, but merlin passes cost £150 in cash which is why you need 3750 points, because 3750x4 = £150.

So, your 900 points is worth £36 towards the £150 of a merlin pass, if that makes sense. Do it 4 times, so 24 bottles of wine costing, around £112? I haven't done the maths - and then you get 1 merlin pass with your points, and 1 or 2 of the petrol coupons depending on whether you make 1 or 2 transactions.

Could you use the wine as birthday/christmas/etc. gifts for family and friends? And use the magazine sub for your mother's present?

That's a great idea - I bought loads of magazine subscriptions for presents a couple of years ago. There's something for everyone, a they all really appreciated it.

Can someone please tell me when does the '25% off buying 6 bottles of wine' deal run out? Saturday, Sunday?

    Sunday, I believe.
