I don't understand your point. I shouldn't now be driving at 70mph? For goodness sake it was a Sunday the road was fairly clear and and all I was doing was tootling along minding my own business.
You can drive at 60mph if you wish, I'll drive at 70mph. If I had wanted to save money I would have driven the Panda.0 -
Flashing lights in this way on the motorway I travel on a lot seems to mean to the person in front "I want a fight" or "I want you to brake test me". Definitely not worth it.
Perhaps but it is recommended by the motoring organisations recommend. Common sense use needed.
Undertaking isn't illegal, you come under dangerous driving / careless so the burden of proof is on the police to prove that.0 -

Did you not mention you also broke 2 laws? How many did the driver of the other car break?0 -
Yesterday I was travelling north from Haddington on the A1 (dual carriageway) when two cars pulled out of a slip road obviously together. The first one moved straight out to outside lane (4 youngsters) and I passed the second one (2-3 youngsters).
This stretch of the road has high number of speed cameras and i find it simplest just to set the speedo at just over 70mph (corresponding to 70mph on the sat nav). I gave them a chance to move in to the clear inside lane but they just stayed out. I crept a little closer and all that elicited was a flash of the hazards and rude hand gestures.
How go you guys handle these situations?
In the end I just took him on the inside lane, but he then just sat on my bumper for a few miles. By this time I was getting cross but decided evasion was the safest option and sped away (his Punto with 4 up didn't have the grunt to keep up) I then left at an exit shortly after and he carried on.
What struck me though was he was just being a !!!!!! but if the cops had been watching I am sure I would have been the one to get a ticket.
persoanlly hintza i dont have a text book way of dealing with this problem, the end result however is usually the same,i end up undertaking.
you can usually judge by the type of driving who is driving, the old pensioner will sit there all day, they wont notice you even undertaking them until your 300 yards infront of them, but still wont do anything about it.so i would approach them in the left lane and undertake without even moving out behind them.
the boy racer will be trying to wind you up,i usually give them the opportunity to pull in just incase, usually they dont, but when my transisit undertakes thier under powered corsa they dont usually like it and try to give chase, just like your situation.
the woman is usually totally oblivious to everything as her mirrors are incorrectly set so therefore sees you at the wrong time and panics, usually makes some kind of rude gesture and still doesnt realise she is in the wrong by being in the wrong lane so continues to hold up the rest of the traffic behind her.
then theres the rep, usually they sit there wait til your halfway past them then put the foot down and kick the !!!!!! out of thier vectra, you will soon catch up with him again and usually pass him when he receives a phone call.
the white van man thinks he owns the whole road so he will let you get half way past him and then decide he wants to move in to the left.
im not aiming this post at everyone who falls into these categories, just the ones who hog overtaking lanes....work permit granted!0 -

unfortunatly lee not everyone is out for a leisurely cruise,so sitting at 60 on a journey of 300 miles just isnt an option im afraid. not everyone is heading down to the local shops or out for sunday lunch you know....work permit granted!0 -

10 years ago if you undertook someone they would often flash their lights and beep their horn in anger. These days it is so rare to elicit a reaction from the person being undertaken. The man without a signature.0 -
The best technique usually involves hitting the far left corner of said "lane blocking" car and knocking it out the way. The police do it all the time :rolleyes:0

I tested the time taken on my daily commute of 72 miles, between 70mph and 60mph.
I arrived 4 minutes later at 60mph than I did the day before, and considerably more chilled.
