I would have skinned them up the inside before pulling back in front of them, indulge in some left foot braking, before dropping a gear and screaming away with my middle finger displayed vertically!

I drive 6 jcts on the M6 everyday and the amount of idiots who potter around in the middle and outside lanes is ridiculous.

I guess you are joking, nobody could be that stupid.

Of course I am but I would have undertaken if I'd been backed up for a couple of miles.

    I've "undertaken" cars many times.:eek::D

On the M25 Dartford Crossing, many people use the right hand bore and exit the tunnel doing 50mph. When the derestriction/National Speed Limit sign appears they still do 50mph, so with me in Lane 1 and them in Lane 3 (and no-one in Lane 2), I floor it.

A couple years ago I had a "discussion" with Essex traffic police about the legality of passing cars on the left on a dual carrigeway. I was heading down the A13 and there was a BMW sitting in the overtaking lane at 60 mph while the inside lane was empty so I moved into the inside lane in front of a lorry and passed it.....oops, all of a sudden on come sirens and blue flashing lights.

The conversation with the cop went something like this:D

He says; You were undertaking, tell me why I don't report you for careless driving.
Me; Hang on, I was driving correctly, since I wasn't overtaking anything I moved back into the inside lane (as per the highway code). It's not my fault that you were sitting blocking the overtaking lane....I was travelling below the legal speed limit after all.

Him; You can't pass another vehicle on the left, it's illegal.
Me; what about slip roads or when there is a right hand turn up ahead?
    Him; That's different.
Me; (you can guess this bit;)) Why?

Anyway, this conversation goes on a bit as he goes over my car looking for anything wrong with it, including getting me to prove that all the light bulbs work. Then we got his copy of the Highway code out of the car and he went through it to find the specific rule about undertaking...which said more about not blocking the overtaking lanes:rotfl:which I was happy to point out btw and he eventually reluctantly agreed that I HADN'T done anything illegal and that he couldn't accuse me of careless driving as I had followed the letter of the rules in the HC - and said nothing when I pointed out, more in sorrow than anger;) that actually it was him as a professional trained driver who had less excuse for not sticking to the letter of the HC.....

Obviously if I had pulled straight out in front of him and roared off, I would have had no defense but he had no proof that I wasn't going to sit in the correct lane until I met the next bit of slow traffic...

Try setting your cruise control to 60mph instead, stay in lane 1 and enjoy a far more hassle-free journey, and £20/month off your fuel bill.

It's precisely that attitude that causes most traffic delays. A far more enjoyable journey can be had when you're not constantly cussing the cars in front for "being in your way", "going too slow", then when they do move over, roaring off to make a point.

The alternative is to engage blue lights, but half the time that doesn't shift people either.

All this talk about total plonkers zooming up and down Britain's motorways much too fast, it's given us such a laugh as we sit here in the south of France, sipping our wine in the sun by the pool. (Not driving today so drinking is no problem).
Take a tip, give it all up now and get out, because if you don't Gordon's impending new taxes, or the other lot's (who will say that things are worse than even they though) will cripple you. You won't be able to afford to drive at 50mph let alone 90mph as you pay for all the bail-outs.

Anyway enjoy the M40/M25 or whatever I'm off for a dip in the pool - enjoy!

PS. Delayed on the way to the pool, my 'wine merchant' turned up with another 10 litres of Red - there's another 10 euro's spent this week already!

    Good original question.

I think the issue is probably you.
I dont mean that in a nasty way - sure your a sensible, proper chap and drive a decent well powered motor, and have a clean license and are a decent driver and while occasionally going over 70 (and who doesnt when its safe to do so) a top class motorist.

However these 4 chavs in their crappy litttle car see you as an old fart in a old mans car and think their little 1.1 engined piece of crap with blue lights on it and some go fast stripes can have you. When they realise they have been made to look pratts they do what any self respecting 17 year old teenager would do - they block you in.

Due to my job I change cars 10-15 times a year. Sometimes I go for the luxury old man refined spec and other times I go for what is very well recognised as undercover police spec (even emulating the colour).

I drive the same way in both cars but peoples attititude and desire to pull over is very very different.

In terms of what you can do - not a huge amount.
Only option is to put a call in to the police and hope when they send a car out to speak with them they find something wrong with either the documentation or the car.

Bearing in mind the number of people driving around without tax or insurance, or licenses, chances are they would have found something wrong with the kids or the car. I have done it before. Motorway police pulled them over a junction down the road. Also done it a few times with unsafe loads, and once with a car on fire and the driver blissfully unaware of the flames coming out his exhaust.

My frustration with drivers are those who overtake you at 90 and then once in front slow down to 70. you go past them at a constant 80 and then 3 minutes later they do the same again.
