Saving for a new SMILE diary

I used to have a diary, but i sorta fell of the MSE wagon so i am going to start a new one. I don't really have debt as such, i owe my OH some money, but he has said i can pay that back when i can, so i'm not going to include it. Obviously i'd like to pay it back ASAP but he knows and is happy that i want to save at the moment for some dental work which will cost in the region of £3,000 :eek: I lost a tooth due to an infection and i really hate it when i smile. You can't really notice it, but i know its there and its really getting me down.

My mission is to save £3,000 by the end of December 2009.

I have so many things going on this year, holidays to Mexico for a friends wedding, buying cars, so i'm hopefully going to make the £3K from extra jobs, i.e. mystery shopping, matched betting, scratchies, and anymore than anyone can think of to help me?

I'm also going to get myself a Terramundi - i have seen a really nice pretty pink one. I'm going to hate smashing it, but any extra money i get is going in there until the end of the year.

Wish me luck in the quest for a new smile by 2010 :D

Also - if anyone has any advice on dental implants, where they have got it done, how much it cost, it would love to hear. Trying at the moment to price everything up. I'm thinking of going abroad as its cheaper out there, but you do hear horror stories about people going aboard for surgery.

Good luck Hayley. Not sure I can give you any new tips that you don't already know, but I'll be reading with interest.

Thanks Yuk - well done on the car loan, you are doing really well, that loan will be gone long before April 2010 I'm sure.

Good luck on the savings plan but I might have some advice re dental treatment

There is a dental school about 20 miles from our home & I found out by chance when needing some emergency treatment that the 5th year dental students work in a local Dental Access Centre. If you are happy to be treated by the students, the treatment is free.
The treatment I have had from them so far is excellent - several fillings and also 2 fillings in my front teeth that had been chipped for some time. There is always a supervisor on hand checking the work as they go.
I would recommend that you try to see if there's a dental school anywhere nearby & then ask if their students work in the community for their final year - always worth a try......

Thank you ClootiesMum for that advice, i may have a look into that. I'm happy to get my treatment any way possible, and if it means i can save some pennies then I'm all for it.

What a day!! I'm so happy Friday evening is here. Its been a horrible day at work, the office has no air con and its like a sauna, its horrible feeling all hot and sticky all day. We've still had no rain in Kent and the air is still not very comfortable, i really hope it rains tonight to clear it a little.

Still no luck with the mystery shops, you have to be so quick otherwise they go. I received an e-mail today saying their are some jobs in my area, i log in 5 minutes later and they're gone. Maybe its time to invest in an Iphone so i can check my e-mails more regular.

The mystery shop sites i'm a member off are, Grassroots & retail eyes. Can anyone think of anymore than are worth signing up to? I was a member of another, i can't remember the name, they mostly done fast food places, and you had to take a long and quite hard test before they let you take any jobs, oh what's it called...

Just had my dinner, i know a bit late, i have been cleaning, best time to do it is when OH is at work, he can't get in the way then, its now time for my dessert....mint choc chip ice cream, its my fav! :o

Hi Hayles, good luck on your journey. One of my missions for when I am debt free is to finally sort my teeth out which is going to cost thousands, so will be routing for you as I know how horrible it is.

There is a dentist on the Health and Beauty board who seems pretty helpful, he may have some good advice for you x x

I've calculated how much its all going to cost and its going to cost around £4,500 to make my teeth just how i want them. I'm prepared to do anything to feel confident again, and actually smile in photos with my teeth showing.

Thank you penguin, i'm going to head over there and have a look.

    I'll come here!! :D

If you're prepared to do ANYTHING - then the best thing you can do is to save up enough money to get it done by someone decent, somewhere close enough to be able to get things checked and looked at quickly if you feel there might be a problem.

Final year dental students working in access centres will NOT be doing implants.

I hope you've got a good dentist now who's making sure that all the surrounding teeth are in the best condition they can be, and that it's a dentist who is familiar enough with implants to be able to give you the aftercare and routine maintenance that they will need.

When you've saved up enough, then this dentist - if he doesn't place them himself - will be best placed to recommend where you get the implant done.

    Good luck with it all.

Remember that implants aren't fit-and-forget items, but that it, along with the rest of your teeth will need good regular care and maintenance to stay in the best possible shape.

Over the long term, good regular care will save you money and teeth.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Hiya Hun,

You know I have a brace at the moment, costing me about £2500, paid £1500 so far so £1000 left to pay for me.

Could that work for you as might be cheaper, you can get invisble ones too called Invislign although they aren't suitable for everyone, me included or is just the one implant you want?

I had eight porcelain veneers fitted for free by students at Leeds Dental Hospital so it's worth looking into this option. :money: They have lasted fourteen years and according to several private dentists they are really well done. I now badly need some more work doing, so may end up joining you in saving for it!

    Hi everyone :hello:

    Thanks for all the replies.

Toothsmith - I get my teeth regularly checked now, and have dental insurance too so thats helped pay for check ups and fillings, and any other work i need. I have looked here http://www.hospitallane.com/ because its near me, however the prices are about £900 more than compared to a place in http://www.londondentalstudio.co.uk/index.html and also a few others i've seen but i won't list them all.

However, i now must get saving. I expect this to all come to near 5K, so thats a lot of money. So far i've saved, ZERO! I'm hoping to save £300 a month from my wage at the moment, and then any extra money i get. Signed up to some more mystery shopping sites, so lets hope i can get some jobs.

Lilmiss - i hope you're well hun? Its just the implant i need - my teeth are rubbish but i was lucky enough for them all to be straight. How long left have you got the brace for? seems a long time ago now that it was fitted.

Firefox - i'm happy to travel anywhere to get them done, so i will look at the Leeds Dental Hospital. TY!

Unfortunately this weekend wasn't a no spend one. I had to have my hair coloured at the roots were taking over, so i'm now a blondie!! :D I have went shopping with my sister and thats never cheap, bought a few lovely bits in the sale from Warehouse, so i was chuffed with them, i also bought a few bits from Miss Selfridge for when i go to Rome in July. We also went out for a meal and went to see My Sisters Keeper, which was such a sad film. So in total i think i spent £200 this weekend  i must try harder not to spend money - if thats possible.

Just heard the weather is going to be 30+ today, i love the hot weather, but i hate it when i'm stuck in an office with no aircon
