AOL Price Increase

Has anyone else received this polite message from AOL?

At AOL Broadband we’re always looking to offer you the best possible service and value. We were one of the first providers to introduce a flat rate broadband connection, and we now have over a million broadband customers enjoying faster speeds thanks to our automatic upgrades.

However, due to the increased cost in maintaining a broadband service in your area, there will be a change to your monthly broadband subscription.
From your next bill after the 21
st July, your broadband package will cost £17.99 a month. This price change will happen automatically with no interruption to your service

I'm currently paying £9.99 a month for a 2mb service and so this is an increase of £8 a month or £96 a year. After nearly 10 years with AOL I think what they're probably saying in a round about way is we don't really want you as a customer anymore and it's time to find another provider.

I'd run, no question. If you have sky they will give you 2Mb broadband for free. If you have Talktalk as a phone provider they will also give you broadband for free. Otherwise yhere are plenty of others out there that will do the same speed for a fraction of the price.

You are right of course. I don't really have an option after such a sudden and massive increase. My maths isn't so good but I make this an 80% price hike.

I've been meaning to change provider for years but just never got around to it but now it seems I'm being pushed into action.

You may not need this but in case you do, enter your phone number or postcode on the SamKnows website to find which providers are available on your local exchange.

You're not the only one Oily-Rag, I got the same shocking email, but to be honest I was expecting a price hike after Carphone Warehouse took the business over, but not an 80% increase.

I've already phoned aol and asked for my MAC key. They tried to get me to stay with AOL by saying if I take on a AOL Talk package (extra £££'s for AOL) they would keep my broadband at £9.99. Who are they trying to fool?

It's now a bit scary trying to find a new ISP since AOL has been a good broadband supplier, as long as you don't use their dire software to connect.

For me the next cheapest is Plusnet at £11.99 a month, but I hate the idea of signing up and being tied to a 12 months contract and risk ending up with a poorer connection.

Great minds think alike, I'm seriously considering Plusnet too. A 10Gb usage allowance is quite generous but I believe it's an 18 month minimum contract. Shouldn't be a problem though after 10 years with AOL.

I'll be calling for my MAC key tomorrow.

    18 months:mad:

I must have been thinking of BT broadband, and even its cheaper than AOL at £15.65 a month.

Yeah, I've been at AOL for 7 years.....loyalty has no value for the brave new AOL.

Peace and love to you at this worrying time:A

    Sky Broadband.

    Base up to 2Mbps, 2Gb cap £5/month
    Everyday up to 10Mbps, 10Gb cap £10/month
Unlimited up to 20Mbps, unlimited, £15/month.

You must have a Sky TV subscription from £17/month.
If you take Sky Talk freetime then there is a £5 discount on the above broadband prices.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    £14.58 20mb
Unlimited, Inc free web texts & McAfee, 12mth contract
Less per month if you have an o2 mobile.

Aol, really are shotting themselves in the foot, there are so many other providers out there to choose from, with a better service.

Yes it is unbelievable, but what AOL are hoping for is that it's members will be too afraid or too lazy to switch.

I would really love to move my broadband to O2 because they are very highly rated as a provider.

Unfortunately O2 have not yet installed their equipment at my local telephone exchange so they have to rely on BT to provide the connection and that makes their package more expensive.

O2 Home Broadband Access costs £22.02 per month for 8mb.
