Every bit counts. I think ½ stone sounds much better than 7lbs.
So well done on your 1st ½ stone, be very proud and keep it upI haven't got one!0 -
I am looking for low carb recipies, have been told by the Doc today I need to loose 4 stone!!!!!!!!!! I thought 2 but she said no 4........ I do eat lots of fruit and veg and the family hitory is heavyweight on both sides, so Doc came up with a low carb diet. I have heard so much bad press about Atkins I am not keen to go down that route. I know I do need to loose weight.
We have started walking to the shops etc and I can also go swimming a couple of times a week free in term time, our swimming pool is hell in the holidays.... so will be keeping out of it.
Anny suggestins for interesting dishes gratefully recieved. One thing did bug me a bit and that was the fact that we live on a limited income and do not have a large amount of cash to splash around on loads of fruit and veg.... My Doctor seems oblivious to the fact that any diet is going to put a strain on my finances, I wonder what the council tax people will think if I tell them I have spent the council tax money on fruit and veg?????

Hi tootles
The walking and swimming will help loads but can I ask why the doc has suggested low carb, couldn't you do something different?I haven't got one!0 -
The doc suggested low carb as I eat a very good diet already, I have a feeling that the weight is a predispostion as my cholesterol is........ I have to take tablets for that and am on a low fat diet anyway, have very little fat although I do occasionally splurge on butter, usually I have toast etc without butter just with a teaspoon of jam. I have to get a blood test for thyroid function, but its always been ok when I have had it done before, but you never know.
I have to use a small plate rather than a dinner plate as well.......... I have to cut out the branflakes I usually have in the mornings and I hate porridge, fruit on its own does not fill me up at all. Lunch time today was a large bowl of salad with an ounce of shreaded cheese and an apple chopped up in it. Supper tonight a 2 egg mushroom omlette.
We neither of us eat a lot of red meat although I do love a good sausage, but spuds are out of the window as is anything made with flour, I am allowed no more than 2 slices of bread a day, no cakes biscuits, etc......... life is going to be very dull!!!!! and I think eating all that fruit I am going to spend a lot of time on the loo!!!!!!

Tootles do you buy your fruit and veg from the supermarket? try getting it from the local veg shop i find its much cheeper. The one near me always has specials on such as 2 cauliflowers for £1 and 10 apples for £1. it saves me a fortune. i also get my shopping online from tesco and use the discount codes from a website that was recommended on here.Mum to 2 beautiful daughters born Oct 05 & Oct 08
It doesn't cost anything to smile!:hello: :starmod: :starmod: :starmod: :starmod::starmod:0 -
No I buy all my fruit and veg on the market, cannot afford to buy it at the supermarket and Tesco's quality is not what it could be, I have in the past brought fruit from them which has gone off or rotten within a few days.
I go into town once a fortnight to stock up and buy enough to last us for the two weeks, if stored properly it keeps ok.

Oats are excellent for reducing cholesterol, but if you don't like porridge you could have muesli instead. If you find it a bit like eating quick drying cement, try mixing a small portion of low fat, low sugar muesli (1 to 1.5 oz/28 to 42g) with a low fat yogurt and leaving it in the fridge overnight - the grains and dry fruit soak up moisture from the yogurt and it becomes really filling.tootles wrote:We neither of us eat a lot of red meat although I do love a good sausage
Most sausages are very high in fat, but you can buy low fat ones - Sainsbury's do a good Cumberland sausage that is less than 3% fat and very appetising - cook them in a non-stick pan with Fry Light so that you don't add fat to them. If you don't shop at Sainsbury's you can also buy other supermarket own brand low fat sausages, or try Bowyers.tootles wrote:and I think eating all that fruit I am going to spend a lot of time on the loo!!!!!!
Don't worry about spending more time in the loo - it's a great way to lose weight!Start BMI - 38.7 Current BMI - 31.2 Target BMI - 26.30 -
Good call on the SW password post in your sig cheeky.
Well done Rachie! And all the other losers.
Had my boyfriend cook me the chicken korma (using quorn though) from the SW curry feast book. Was a little disappointed in it to be honest, but i have a hard time with currys anyway as i'm a spicy food wuss. Also i'm still used to the the increadibly creamy and unhealthy kormas from restaurants! We're going to try a few things to improve the recipe but apart from that it looks like a really good book. I think we're making onion bajiis and/or aloo sag (or similar) tonight. yum.0
