Hi weightlossers
Update on my Dr visit, after the blood tests I had done regarding not losing weight.
Tonight my Dr told me I have 'Hypothyroidism' or an Underactive Thryroid.
Not happy about it at all, don't even really know what it means yet (heard of it, but never bothered about it before. no need for me to).
My Dr says I'll be on medication for the rest of my life and once on it I'll start losing weight.
So will read up on it tomorrow and kick start my diet again later this week.
I KNEW something wasn't right. I stuck to that SW diet like glue!!!!
I'm away at the weekend for 10days, but will start the diet and report back ASAP. Might do it while I'm away if the internet cafe is open this early in the year out there.

LL -I'm so pleased that you finally got to the bottom of it - you had been trying so hard. Not so good about the thyroid but at least you can sort out the losing weight problem at the same time. Don't worry too much about the thyroid -its a fairly common problem and an advantage (if you want to call it that!) is that as you are on medication for the rest of your life you qualify for free prescriptions - ask you GP about this. (I know because my mum does)
Have a lovely break - where are you off to?0 -
Free prescriptions???? Are you sure? I need to get the medication tomorrow, it was late tonight when I left surgery. Will they know by the script that it'll be free, or do I just tell them?
Very MSE
Lose weight ...............save money................result!
I'm off to my place in Bulgaria. My weight goes down there usually, because I can eat what I fancy when I fancy it. They make lovely salads and veggie dishes, plenty of fish ..........all for pennies. Plus we have a pool and last visit bought bicycles.
I feel much happier knowing it wasn't my fault (so to speak). Of course the downside is I now have a condition
Thanks for the support on here. I'll need it when I get back...........I'm in for the long run now.

Hugs to you Lilac, it must be a relief though to know that you have an answer to why you havent been losing weight??
Here are three good websites to check out about under-active thyroids... If you phone NHS Direct (0845 4647) then they will send you some info about it for free and tell you what you want to know
http://www.btf-thyroid.org/
http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleID=206
http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/underactive_thyroid.html
this link tells you who is entitled to free prescriptions, and i think you would qualify as they mention Myxoedema (underactive thyroid) or other conditions where supplemental thyroid hormone is necessary. (its 7th in the list) - see below
http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069022/
It also saysIf you have one of these conditions, get form FP92A from your doctor's surgery and fill it in. This is sent to the Prescription Pricing Authority who will issue a Medical Exemption Certificate.
HTH
Hope you enjoy your hols, it sounds like it is just what you need!! I wish I had a place in Bulgaria to go to right now
take care

I think someone has pinched the thanks button as it has been AWOL for a bit now??
No worries anyway, I just hope you get sorted soon....
p.s. I have probably edited my post since you replied with some more info, I was too quick to press 'submit' earlierOfficial DFW Nerd 2100 -
LL - Rachie got there before me. Yip they are def free, I have to tick a box on the back of the prescription when I collect my mums to say she is entitled to a non paying prescription - its covers everything that she ever gets in script - not just the thyroid medication. You need a form signed by your GP to say that you are on the medication and thus entitled to them free. Aren't you glad you came on tonight and shared that with us :rotfl:
Have a fab holiday - you can relax now. Enjoy!0 -
While on the SW webiste looking up the syn value of ahem, the few choccie bics I have just devoured - I discovered a great thing.
Its a game called diamonds, you will find it under coffee break (this weeks password is trout). I got as far as level 32 so far.. great for stopping me nibbling at more biccies! Have a go! Off for another go :rotfl:0 -
Lilac - so glad you finally got to the bottom of the problem, though i'm sorry to hear that it'll mean medication. Hope the meds start working straight away.
Have a lovely holiday - it sounds fabulous!
I had a toast binge last night (weight watchers bread, but a lot of it). Swimming seems to make me crave bread and cheeseNever mind - will be much more strict when i get back from my little hol to centre parcs next week!
Good luck this week all.0
