  • Blimey you lot move fast! I signed up to Lose Weight 5 last night... I come back this evening and Lose Weight 5 has been replaced by Lose Weight six, and there are already four pages of postings! Thanks to everyone who welcomed the newbies!

So for Rachie, here's a family veggie recipe for you:

Quorn Sausages and Mash with Veg Gravy

(NB. syn values quoted here are for green days - not sure about red days; I'm vegetarian!

Quorn Sausages (all flavours are free) plus potato mash (free, best made with proper potatoes, not Smash). For a variation on the mash, add a little of one or more of the following to the spuds before boiling; parsnip, onion, swede, turnip, sweet potato or carrot.

Alternatively, after cooking the spuds add some dijon mustard (1/2 syn per level teaspoon) or horseradish sauce (1 syn per level TABLEspoon) when you mash them. You can make the poatoes creamier by adding some fat-free fromage frais or very low fat yougurt (both free), rather than butter/milk. If you like, you could make cheesy mash by adding a healthy extra portion of cheese. Remember if you are making mash for a family (eg. for four), you can add 4x your HE allowance of cheese, and still be OK (provided that you don't have more than your fair share!)

I usually fry some onion and/or mushrooms (dry, or in fry light with the sausages, free again). Then make some Bisto veg gravy (just under 4 syns per half pint, made in accordance with the instructions, or about 1syn per heaped teaspoon) and add the onions/mushrooms to the gravy. Note that Bisto gravy seems to be lower in fat (and syns) than the supermarket own-label imitations.

Bump up your daily veg intake by serving with your choice of veg (peas and carrots go well). Delicious! Let me know when you've tried it!

Mmmm.... MoneyManSteve - that sounds delicious - sausages and mash sounds nice enough but the additional flavours that you have mentioned make it sound like something that i could feed the others too!!

    YAY!! :j
