Hiya
I always find that eating a grapefruit with my breakfast keeps my weight down. I sometimes have a grapefruit before each meal but that is a bit bad for your system i think. I also sometimes drink how water with fresh lemon and a bit of honey that kind of cleans out your system the cheap way....:D

Hi to all you new folks who have joined us -the more the merrier!
Sophie - there is a lady who goes to my SW class who swears by a grapefruit each day for brekkie. One week she didnt have any in and was unable to get to the shops and she put weight on. I stick it for a day or two but they tend to make me run to the loo - maybe thats why it works :rotfl: Never thought of that!!
Ive mentioned on here that I have fallen off the wagin a bit recently. I looked at a photo taken of me yesterday and lets just say I am back on it. I re-read my SW book in bed last night and have been drinking water (and running to the loo) all day :rotfl: The photo was taken at a really bad angle (by DD) and showed about 18 chins. That in itself was motivation!
Good lcuk this week everyone - lets hope the sunshine lasts. Incidentally, my friend reckons she isnt as hungry when the sun shines and its hot - I'm the opposite -what about everyone else??0 -
Well, I feel more like eating salads when it's hot. Although then I am more inclined to drink a shandy!
I do lose some of my natural hunger when I exercise. Provided it is not swimming. When I go swimming I could eat a whole horse afterwards.'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -
I agree its much easier to eat salads in the summer and I unfortunately also agree about the shandy (or the wine!). :rotfl:0

Actually, honey, i too seem to be feeling even hungrier than usual. I put it down to hormones and to the sheer boredom i'm suffering at work at the moment but maybe it is weather related as well.
We're having cottage pie tonight which i don't really fancy in this hot weather but it's part of my effort to be more strict with myself (getting back to free foods) and should fill me up enough to avoid picking at the cake that my boyfriend has still not finished eating (it'll end up in the bin if he's not careful!).
Good luck honey - keep up with the water and stuff your face with free foods!0 -
I'm starting to be drawn in by the grapefruit theory! Thing is, i've never really liked them in the past so it may not happen.
Didn't someone else say that eating an apple little while before big meals prevents bloating...

sophistica wrote:Has anyone found an easy diet to stick to which doesn't cost the earth. I Have "tried" everything including The Zone, Weight Watchers (Online as well as classes) Atkins etc...not to mention "eating less and exercising more" (most unpleasant). I want to get down from 12.3 to about 9.3 without needing cosmetic surgery to deal with excess skin. Any ideas?
Well I'm biased, but I don't think you can beat the Slimming World plans.
I know someone said recently on this board that their shopping bill had risen, but I don't find that myself.
You can have absolutely LOADS to eat and it's real food (not rabbity stuff). I have Mullerlight & fruit for breakfast (if I'm extra hungry I mix it with plain couscous..yummy) then a huge jacket potato with a tin of baked beans or half a large pot of cottage cheese for lunch. Our evening meal is often something like spag. bol or pasta with a tomato based sauce. I put extra meat in it for my husband but I prefer it without.
In between I drink lots of water and eat fruit or carrot batons with a dip made with quark and garlic salt. I'm honestly never hungry and I have a large appetite.
Admittedly I spend quite a bit on Mullers but not half as much as I used to spend on chocolate, sweets, biscuits etc.
There's no actual need to exercise but it does help to tone up the muscles and avoid that excess skin you talked about :rotfl:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I wonder how much of that is down to the fact that having had an apple (or grapefuit) before your meal, you simply eat less of the meal!
This would account for less bloating and better weight loss - not so much of a mystery after allI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hum... When I was at the high school I decided to take healthier habits with my food and substituted an apple for the usual sandwich every morning.
That year I gained half a stone.
I've hated apples ever since.'They can tak' oour lives but they cannae tak' oour troousers!'The Nac Mac Feegle0 -
I know what you mean Jennitells about being strict with yourself and getting back onto free foods - I'm having quorn spag bol - that is if there is quorn in my freezer.
I have to say that SW isn't costing me anymore that my usual shopping - as I'm having mainly green days I'm not buying meat/chicken/fish etc so my shopping bill is cheaper.
I wonder how Cheekymole is getting on - is it 2 or 3 weeks she is away for - if its 2 she should be back soon, by my reckoning?0
