    Hello Suki

I made a very similar move two years ago (West London to Co.Down), but am not going to recommend the bloke who did my move....he didn't come to see my stuff, gave a quote over the phone (like so many of them insist on doing!), then when he had it all loaded informed me that there was more than I said and charged me extra!! I hadn't packed when I phoned him so perhaps I had more boxes than my description made him envisage...but make sure you get them to come and look if possible.

I expect you've looked in the Irish Post and the other Irish paper over there? Of the two main papers one has loads of ads for removal companies, but I can't remember which paper it is.

Also, you could contact companies over here - sometimes they have empty vans coming back having moved someone from here over to there.

My aunt made her move from scotland to NI about four years ago, and she used Pickfords. OK money no object for her and she had them pack for her, but she was very pleased with their service. For an extra few bob they might be worth it to get the date you want. With all those lorries they should be more accommodating than your Man and a Van type firms.

  • We used Foster & Sons from Holywood a few weeks ago, only for a local move but I think they go to England too, very well priced and extremely efficient, courteous and hard working. Made the move 100 times easier.

We used McGimpsey Bros (based outside Belfast Co. Down??) from Southampton to NI a few years ago. Perhaps not the cheapest but were very good.
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Try Andersons of Bangor - 91453146. John Hagan is the owner. Very short notice though.

Mother in law used Fosters when she moved to Bangor and was pleased with them.
    Welcome to Newtownards,a gr8 town,you'll love it.
  • Used Fosters in December and couldn't rate them highly enough. Extremely efficient, courteous and hard working guys, the cheapest I found but worth every penny, came recommended by 2 different estate agents.
