I think if I was ever to attempt a design like that I would sew it without the background detail and just use a suitable colour of fabric which matches the design.

I love those designs, but i don't think i'd live long enough to complete them :rotfl:
MrsM, Just noticed on that link that you get free chart for completing a HAED http://www.heavenandearthdesigns.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=24&chapter=0 what more of an incentive do you need
Some nice freebies there too http://www.heavenandearthdesigns.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=19&chapter=0Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0 -

I definitely know what you mean, but I think the backgrounds just make those designs. HAED do have a background removal service though.Just noticed on that link that you get free chart for completing a HAED

That cat is lovely but it is huge for a first project on black!
Can I suggest that you try a small design ( card maybe) on black fabric first before committing yourself? Most people are absolutely fine but there are plenty who HATE stitching on black as it can be hard to see the holes although there are some tricks you can use to help if necessary.
If you'd like a small piece of black aida or linen to try before you buy a big piece then drop me a PM and I'll send you a piece to try. I stitch almost exclusively on black so I always have plenty tucked away.
Awww thanks Amanita, that was a lovely offer but I've actually got a small piece (somewhere!). I shall dig it out and have a try first. I think you are right, now I've sat and thought about it, even on white 25" x 25" is a big next project, and to jump onto a material I've not properly tried is a bit silly. I'm keeping that page bookmarked though, I do want to try it some time in the future!!!!
Thanks for the advice, I've seen sense :rotfl: Trouble is I still need to choose my Christmas pressie. Looks like I have an excuse to go back onto the sites :j
Mrs M, you have an eye for a stunning picture!!! You were so far ahead of the game you spotted the great HAED designs even before they did LOL. I like the waterfall behind Lust. WOW!
Maria, please keep us posted, I'd like to see how you get on with the black.:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:0 -
I'm hoping I get on ok stitching on black fabric as I have a Tiger & Cub kit to do that's on black.
If not I'll remember the advice of laying a white towel across my lap
Done abit more on the current project today and have decided I hate stitching white on white. Glad I got the white stitches out of the way today though and can go back to colours:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
well finished my xmas tree last night and have dug out my flower fairies to work on tonight, have picked up and put down the faries so many times but this time i will finish them, they were ment to be a pressie for my mum, but i have decided that as i have struggled to complete them (Not sure why i have such an issue with them) im going to keep them for myself and have them on the wall, just to prove that i wasnt beatten
hope everyone is well today

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update from me.
Have managed to cross-stitch two evenings this week (not last night as I took my youth club swimming) and my Santa Clothes design by Raise the Roof is coming along nicely. I took a pic on Monday morning and will do so again at the weekend so you can see my progress. It's proving great fun as Santa now has a jacket, bobble hat and boxers, but I've still to stitch the socks and trousers (otherwise he may get chilly :rotfl:).
I went to Ally Pally and bought the threads I needed to complete the design plus a beading kit to make 3 x angels to hang on the Xmas tree. Have never tried beading but apparently the kit is for beginners using brick stitch(?) so will give it a whirl. I too thought there were too many 'other' types of stalls this year, but still gives me a belly ache at the anticipation of what I may find (what a saddo.....)
I too have a flower fairy pic which is unfinished. I too cannot tell you why it gave me problems. May try picking it up again once the christmas stitching is done.
Have a good day all.
Carolyne

Here's my little update.
Last time 07/10
Now 22/10
Having noticed that most of you do the backstitching as you go along i thought i might give it ago - its usually the bit i like doing the most so its almost like a little reward when i nearly finnish a section.....along side the chocolate and cups of tea
After seeing H&E designs on here I have been drooling over the Alice in Wonderland designs....after days of my not-so-subtle hinting my boyfriend has brought me the Mad Tea Party for my birthday pressie. He was even smart enough to get me all of the threads, fabric, new frame, DMC storage bows & folder *squeels*
I must resist Mystic stitch... I think any link posted to charts on here must come with a warning complete with a picture of piled high UFO's - a bit how they do them on cigarette packets.0 -
Wow spoz - you have got so much done!!! :T It's a beautiful design.
I am well impressed at your boyfriend - not for getting the chart, but for all the stuff to go with it - what a guy!!:rotfl:
I like the ide of having a 'UFO' warning....but I doubt it would put me off!!:D:rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
