That cat is lovely but it is huge for a first project on black!
Can I suggest that you try a small design ( card maybe) on black fabric first before committing yourself? Most people are absolutely fine but there are plenty who HATE stitching on black as it can be hard to see the holes although there are some tricks you can use to help if necessary.
If you'd like a small piece of black aida or linen to try before you buy a big piece then drop me a PM and I'll send you a piece to try. I stitch almost exclusively on black so I always have plenty tucked away.0 -
I have been lurking and really enjoying all the conversations. I agree that Mystic Stitch is dangerous!!
Simac, I love your By the Light of the Moon, I have been toying with this Blood Moon design, now I am confused!!! I am going to sew it for my DH as he is a keen astronomer. His birthday is in March so that is possibly do-able, if I get around to buying it and getting it started!
At the moment I am knitting away making Christmas pressies: bodywarmers for my sister and neice. The wool only arrived on Monday (from Black Sheep) and I have almost finished the first back! I should have started knitting/sewing months ago as I have been off work ill since last December. Mind you, everything has become much clearer since I got my new glasses! I will let you know my decision, I think I will ask DH which one he prefers.
Louise, I like your idea of photographing all your UFOs so you can decide what to give who. I don't have many UFOs, the worst ones are my sons' birth samplers - DS1 will be 20 in December! I don't think I have much to do with his, but DS2's has a fair bit to do. Both are Beatrix Potter designs (each is different), I love the designs, but also our surname is Potter! I will root them out and post piccies when I can.
Oops, time has shot by and I have to be at the physio's in half an hour, and I haven't showered yet...aaargh!

I spotted a design I love
http://www.sewalong.co.uk/ProductFull.asp?sel1=(HAE)LT20
and Im gob smacked because about 3 years ago I got 3 charts off e-bay -I was looking at them again the other day as I love them-but I wasn't sure how good the detail would be compared to the heaven and earth range
And well b*gger my old boots if they aren't heaven and earth designs :jalthough they have only just appeared on the site and are "NEW"

And this one to go with them is gorgeous

I will scuttle off now and have a look at those charts -I was so close to getting rid of them too...glad I didn't

Assuming you have about a hundred years left in you to stitch them all.... *now would the pictures be nice enough to distract visitors from the clutter that would ensue if I stopped cleaning?*

Pretty!
It helps to have something light in your lap - a white pillow case is good but I use a sheet of white paper - generally another page of my working copy!
A good light is also important. There is a school of thought that says have it under the fabric so it shines up through the holes. That guarantees me a migraine so I find it better to have an overhead light - I just use an ordinary standard lamp, nothing fancy, so the light falls onto the fabric.0 -
thanks will keep you up to date when i eventually start, so many projects so little time and the housework keeps getting in the way lol13 in 2013 challenge 9/130

Mrs M - Those Seven Deadly Sins HAED patterns are the very ones I was drooling over at the weekend!

Re: black fabric - I am one who loathes it with a passion, and I am an experienced stitcher who uses a proper lap light for underneath! I really wish I could be one of the many who work on it no problem, as designs can look so striking on it.Egg Loan - [strike]£4921.84[/strike] £0!! :j Barclaycard - £3866.47 Legal + Trade - [strike]£2700.96[/strike] £0!! :j Triton - [strike]£1730.89[/strike] £0!! :j Next - [STRIKE]£776.15[/STRIKE] £126.88 Littlewoods - [strike]£217.16[/strike] £0!! :j Housemate - [strike]£1300[/strike] £0!! :j Capital One - [STRIKE]£1652.51[/STRIKE] £1,081.58 Vanquis - [strike]£2337.75[/strike] £375.58
