    Hi there Samiboo

I work with a hoop no mater how big the design - I find them lighter to hold than the frames ;) if you go for a frame and can afford a little more -look at the clip ones -instead of sewing your fabric to the frame it clips in place -much quicker to do :D-like this :-

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400063992909&indexURL

If using a hoop -make sure its not too big for the piece you are stitching or you won't be able to get the fabric nice and tight ;)

How on earth do you manage just holding the fabric ?

^^It certainly is looking good - you have got so much finished in just this past week :T

Where are you putting it when it's completed?

Yeah, I really got stuck into it this week, didn't I??? To be honest, I stitched all day, every day from Monday to Thursday, most of yesterday afternoon and a few hours today. I'm now itching to start another Dictionary of... or one of my Cut Thru' designs, but I won't. Not until Crisp Afternoon is done, anyway.

I have no idea where I'm going to hang it yet. I'm not even sure how I'm going to frame it. I don't think they should be hung up together as I think there's a lot to look at, and having all 3 (or 4??? ;)) next to each other would be too busy. I thought about hanging it in our bedroom, but then I think I'd rather it be somewhere where more people would see it. So I can show it off! :D Then again, everyone who comes here gets the full tour of my stitching around the house anyway. LOL!

:) It's just how I've always worked. I've tried rings and frames, and I find they get in the way and annoy me. I read in Cross Stitch Gold that if you can keep a good, even tension with the fabric just in your hands, then keep doing it as it obviously works for you. I stopped trying to persevere with the frames after that!

I too only ever used to hold the fabric in my hands but then again I haven't really done any big pieces. The biggest piece I have done is the one I am nearly finished with and since getting the clip frame I now wouldn't be without it. Though you do have to be careful with them as you can go over board with the tension as I have found out :o

I have a clip frame the same as the one MRSMC has linked to and I'd recommend tensioning it whilst actually sewing but if you stop for a while or overnight I'd slacken off the tension.

Misty thanks for posting your work in progress. I notice you have done the outlining as you have gone along, I think I'll have to do that where I can on future projects because I usually leave it till last but then when it comes to I don't want to do it.
I have done all the crosses on Rubys' xmas present with just the outlining to do but I am stalled. I hate outlining!

Misty blue that kit is amazing! I'm tempted, but I will be strong! :rotfl:

I now know why Ive got lots of UFO's - I've made a few mistakes a couple of extra stitches here or there, or the wrong colour! ARGH - what do I do, as one of the UFO's is almost finished!

On another note, I've been given a Janelyn lady chart from my mother - in - law but htere are no threads. Does anyone know if Janelyn use DMC or Anchor threadsin their kits, as I'd really like to start this once I've finished by UFO's of course. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Jannlyn use DMC - I know cos I stitched one of their kits and I ran out of thread. DMC was the brand that matched!
Are your mistakes really noticeable? Sometimes once they're framed etc, only you will know they're there. Just tell folks you "customised" the kit, LOL!!

Actually -hubby is the same too -every stitch has to be exactly as the chart says -no creativity some folks ehh :p
I can't believe folks can sew without hoos/frames -I would end up with it sewn to my top n allsorts :o
I have an afternoon of sewing planned - hope everyone else get time to get some done today :D

Jintyb - thanks for that. I shall look through my massive stash and see which ones I do and don't have. The little old lady who runs the little craft shop in town is going to love me on Saturday! :-)I like your way of thinking - I shall perserve with the 'mistakes' and you're right no-one will notice barr me!Thanks again for your advice.Cx

    Hi everyone,

Just found this thread and I'm so pleased to see so many other people into cross stitching!!!

My UFO is called 'mother's love' and its a gorgeous picture of a mother polar bear and two cubs. The only trouble is there are so many shades of white, cream and grey that it's taken me ages to do just the mother bear!!!! The kit was a present from my husband because I adore polar bears but I had lost my motivation. Reading this forum has inspired me, I think I will try my hardest to finish it.
:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:

I to stitch without a hoop or a frame, I find them soo clumbersome. Plus I've had a bad experience with a hoop - where I had the tension a little too tight it streched the fabric.

I can be a perfectionist when it comes to stitching, especially when they're presents. The worst think, is thinking something's perfect/finished, getting it framed and then you notice a mistake or one or two stitches missing!
