Think i want to walk out of work

Sounds rather dramatic I know but I am on the virge of walking out of my job, It is rather selfish I know in todays climate but I really can't see what else to do, or perhaps its normal to feel this way at work?
As soon as you walk in you get a feeling of depression and sadness, Every minute seems like an hour, all you can think of is being anywhere else, At break times I am always first in, while the others are often so engrossed in there work they come in late, something which has never happened to me, same with home time, I am always first out. I never do overtime as I can't handle being there 1 second longer than need be.
When of on holidays they are ruined at the thought of going back, Take Christmas this year, I had 2 weeks off, I got of on Christmas eve, Christmas day I was sitting having a drink celebrating the occasion, then it dawned on me the thought of work, I actually got a bit teary eyed and I had almost 2 weeks to go, they were ruined. Same happens at weekends, On Saturday night the depression hits. I actually cancelled this years summer holidays as they will be ruined anyway so pointless.
I feel totally trapped as I have kids/partner to support but I am fed up with this depression, Believe it or not I actually listen to motivation tapes by Tony Robbins on my MP3 player to get me through the day. Problem is there is no work around here, in fact there never has been only dead end jobs so I presume they are all the same. The pain might be eased a bit if the pay was decent but I earn less that £13K per year, hardly motivating. HELP!!:( Because I really don't know what else to do, If this is all there is to life I think I'd rather be dead.

What particular aspect of the work is it that is depressing? Is it the work itself? Is it too hard or too boring? Are your collegues horrible? Is there bullying going on? Have you been to your doctor? It sounds to me like it is something more than work itself that is getting you down. Have you been depressed in your life before?
If you hate your current job but need the cash then you need to find a way of sticking it out while you work towards what you actually want to do. Finding another job when you are already employed is much easier. What job would you like to do?0 -
What a state you're in. Have you thought about speaking to your GP? This might help in the shorter term. Is it worth looking for jobs further afield ie, would you and the family be able/want to move?0

Its factory work, Its the type of job you don't actually have to think to do, then there is all the politics and !!!!!ing that goes on in the place, and working for peanuts is hardly rewarding. I have been looking for another job since I started 3 years ago and am still there which says alotI just feel trapped and totally undervalued and out of place.

Family won't move, I have tried that. The Doctor gave me Sertraline an anti depressant 3 years ago, which coincidently was when I started working in there. I've never taken them though. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I think you should definitely speak to your GP about how you're feeling, as well as your partner, as I'm sure she'd rather know and want to help you.
ETA- just read your reply, if you aren't keen on the idea of meds (which is perfectly understandable) do tell them that, they may be able to offer some sort of counselling.Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

First and foremost there is nothing selfish about wanting to quit work if you are unhappy. The negative posts you have seen on here (including from myself) to a poster who had quit work, were more centred around his/her attitude to the jobcentre and the perception (incorrect) that the lower classes got everything.
I would go on to say that whilst work might have been the catalyst for your feelings perhaps something more deepset has now taken hold. Not my field of expertise but I would suggest a visit to the doctor is definitely in order. Counselling, etc isn't everyones' cup of tea but similar programmes such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or life coaching can be very useful whereas direct counselling can open a "can of worms".
Does your company buy into a staff support programme? Familiarise yourself with the sickness policy in case you need to take some time off. Take up a hobby and rebook that holiday. Having things to aim for is very important. Using your holidays to mope at home will only feed your problems further. Go for a walk at lunch time to clear your head, get away from your desk or workspace, it helps to break the day up.
Does partner work? Do you get Working Tax Credits? Might be worth looking into to see if you qualify as a low income earner. Household income is what they go on when in a partnership (marriage, co-habiting, etc).0 -

Sorry just seen your post re. meds. They are prescribed for a reason. Naturally there are many people who don't like taking meds but this is the very reason you should seek complimentary therapies. Above all you should tell your doctor if you are not taking the medication.
I have to say though, why don't you consider trialing it for 3 months? If it isn't for you then stop with support from your doctor.
Editing this post so not to make to many.
Just also seen you do factory work. Do you have other skills? Would a sideways move into admin or similar be possible? Do you jobsearch at all? If you are serious about leaving then you should really try to get work whilst still there and relieve your stress by saying to yourself, "Well I have made my mind up to not stay and as soon as the right job comes along I am off." Sometimes this is all that is needed, especially if you really put the effort into your jobsearch.
This won't be easy if you don't try to tackle your depression however. Tackle one problem at a time.0 -
It took me a long time to accept that I needed medication for my depression. When I started the meds I was on them for just over a year & have not used them since.
Depression is not a weakness, it's a chemical imbalance in the brain & the meds help to correct this - that's the way I look at it.
They are worth a try but it might be worth checking with your GP again first if they were prescribed over 3 yrs ago

Sorry to hear how you're feeling, and by the sound of it, I can understand why you feel that way.
If you don't mind me saying so, if you're family 'won't move' considering how you feel, I think they're being pretty damned selfish. Why would they not want to move to another area if it's going to make you happier and you could get a better job?
Is it your work alone that is getting you down or family related too?If you will the end, you must will the means.0
