Being in a job you hate is actually bad for your physical health. I hated my job like you do. I only escaped when I got diagnosed with terminal cancer. For the next few months I had terrible nightmares about being back at work....not about dying!!! So I understand how strongly being unhappy in your work can affect you.

(As it happens my cancer turned out to be slow growing although uncurable and that was 7 years ago)

So your challenge is to research setting up your own business. Maybe give yourself one year to prepare. Start by jotting down any ideas that come into your head and find out as much as you can. Go on:naughty: Buy that jotter now and GOOD LUCK!.

WOW.. Best of luck to you my friend.

    nireland guy,
I know where you are coming from. When I worked for my local council, I hated my job so much I actually damaged my back teeth by grinding them in frustration. I applied for every other job I could in the local area (north east) but unfortunately I already had one of the best paying jobs in the area, so I was trapped.

It wasn't until I changed my own attitude that I got any peace. I started an A-level at evening class, spent my spare time at work (discreetly!) working out silly sums such as I was being paid 5 pence an hour (this was in the 80's!) and taking the outlook that this was only temporary, it would pass. I applied for every job going. After 2 years of searching, I got a great job in a private company, and said goodbye to my old job with great relish. My colleagues thought I was mad to leave!

The cause of my frustration (being unable to talk clearly to the public I was meant to serve, cos I was behind a bullet proof screen) was eventually fixed, a week before I left - the fuse in my microphone was replaced at a cost of 2 pence - the cause of years of frustration - that's local government for you.

Hang in there. It may take time, but if you persevere, something else will come your way. You just gotta explore all avenues. If you're doing everything you possibly can do to get out of the situation you hate, it does give you a kind of strength and pateince

    Good luck

    JJ

What is it with antidepressants that so many depressed people don't take them?.
They don't work for everybody and can sometimes make people worse, so if a depressed person has seen someone close to them have a bad experience then it can be very offputting.

I was prescribed antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds years ago, and my mother hated the idea of my taking them as she'd watched my grandparents and her cousin's condition decline instead of improve, so understandably, it worried her.

I gave them a try anyway, and like my relatives, also had a bad experience, then tried another kind to no avail, and my experiences have scared me off trying anything else, (though I do use herbal anxiety remedies these days which help a little).

I have met a few people who have found that meds gave them a new lease of life, so it is worth a try, all I'm saying is I can see the reasons why people might be wary.
Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice. :(

Why do you think that you've wasted the money if you're now in a better position?

I was in a similar position about 10 years ago now, hated my job - if I wasn't crying I was being a cow to everyone. My supervisor went off with stress and I was left trying to cover her as well, i tried asking to move departments but kept getting fobbed off. Rather than go to the doctor I decided to take control (thanks to a supportive partner-had a mortgage but no kids then) and handed my notice in -the relief was immense! In the end they agreed to move me rather than lose me, but i guess in the current climate its not a gamble to take.
I wish you luck and am sure once you've decided your course of action that in itself is enough to give you a lift.

    TONY ROBBINS is THE MAN!!!

Why not just listen but Take Action!
As he says Information is potential power. Action is power

So why not write down what you would like to do in your life and where you see yourself in say 1 mth, 6mths, 1 year etc. Write down where you are now and what steps it will take for you to achieve where you want to be.

    best of luck:)
