Well obviously not, I told the head teacher that I would like to speak to the t.a. and leave it at that. The head said that whilst she is happy to sort a meeting out for me and the t.a, she still wants to take things further.

With the new incident that the t.a. told the head about, that is 3 different things now.

She is taking things further because you demanded action very early on this. Obviously she isn't going to back down so that you can come along later complaining that nothing happened about this incident!

unsure if anyone else has suggested this but maybe your son just missheard. what she may have said was probably make sure you rub the sun cream in or you'll turn white.
which would make sense as quite often with kids sun cream it's as thick as custard and white? hense the "you'll turn white" remark.
i've said it and i'm not racist, and i'd say you'd turn blue if it's the kids blue sun cream.

    just a thought

I thought it may be that at the start but the OP has since explained that the TA had knowledge of a child whose skin turned white after being sunburnt, so that is where the comment came from.

    It's a long thread I know!

I think it's a pity the OP and the TA didn't get a chance to talk and listen to each other before this became official. Getting to know each other might have made a difference and increased their mutual understanding.

OP, I would be upset too in your situation and would want to get the bottom of it all and find out exactly what had been said and why.

Have you heard anything back from the Headteacher yet?

What is there to get to the bottom of? A racist comment was not made and it is possible her son miss heard what the TA said.

In "get to the bottom of it" I mean that I would want to hear exactly what had been/not been said. Yes, it is possible that the OP's son misheard what the TA said, so I would want to find out what she did actually say if that was the case. If a TA is referring to the OP's son's race/colour I think its she is perfectly entitled to investigate how/why.

So making a remark about the race or colour of someone is always grounds for investigation?

How does OP know that the TA remembers the names of the 28 white children in the class?

Hands up anyone who has mistaken someone for someone else?

Yes because God forbid that anyone should ever mention anyone's race or colour
