You seem to be pleasingly knowledgeable about this forthcoming upgrade!

Would you know what would happen for factory/manufacturer refurbished Vista-installed computers/laptops sold by a dealer? Would these also qualify for the 'almost free' upgrade to the corresponding version of Windows 7 from the manufacturer?

    Thanks!

I would imagine you'd have to ask the manufacturer.

They aren't going to say for a few days, and will be difficult to pin down, undoubtedly - I'm hoping Jacg has prior information?

The place im buying my Desktop off, said IF it goes "live" friday like they expect, then any computer bought from friday onwards will get a free upgrade to Windows 7. Those words from the people themselves. Not sure how you go about getting it, i will ask before i order i guess.

Thanks, I didn't know that existed yet! Tried the Vista one ages ago, but this'll come in handy too! :)

Windows 7 runs a lot faster than Vista for me, and a little bit faster than XP.

Most likely not - To quote from the Microsoft site:
4 Qualifying PC must be manufactured by a PC manufacturer participating in the Windows 7 Upgrade Option program.

I'm not a magical source of information unfortunately - Microsoft are being intentionally cagey about details to consumers because they don't want to shoot their sales in the foot. I get access to the Microsoft retail training centre (ExpertZone) through work which does have this info...

1 out of 5 for me...not that it matters to me...my XP days are long gone (except on the 1ghz laptop...a license for 7 will cost more than the lappy is worth :( )

Not necessarily true with Win 7 starter edition

ah...but close enough, Rich...the lappy is around 4 years old...and wifey's toy...not gonna spend a penny on a new OS if it doesn't need one
