Vote in Nationwide's AGM 2009

People say a lot about how cheap nationwide is compared to everyone else for a cash withdrawal - but with an Abbey Zero card, if I withdraw cash (zero fee) and pay off the next week when I'm home (28% cash interest) I'll end up paying less than 1% for the amount withdrawn. I also didn't need to leave the cash sitting in the nationwide current account at 0% interest!0

You don't need to leave it earning 0% - stick it in an e-saver and transfer online the morning you go overseas.0

As you are all part owners of Nationwide, I think they would take a members revolt seriously.
What you seem to be asking for is the impossible though? You want interest rates on savings and current accounts increased when profits have already been slashed and the bank of england base rate (to which a lot of Nationwide mortgages are linked) at historically low levels.
Surely it is better to put up with poor rates for a bit rather than have the nationwide broken up and have to go to banks which charge 3% plus for using your card overseas or who pay even worse rates on savings accounts?
Where I do totally agree (as a member of Nationwide) is that the Directors should have waived their long term incentive and bonus (like other society directors have) and they should certainly ditch their stupid advertising campaign and save some money that way.
R.
Its not all about money.
They have developed a very snappy attitude to their customers of late. Very penny pinching. It will come back to haunt them sooner or later. They billed me £30 for a bounced cheque. I pulled what i can only describe as a substantial wad of cash out of one of their accounts and put it elsewhere. Tit for tat.0 -
Just bouncing this to the top. There is still to vote on this & back it up with a letter to Graham Beale the chief executive saying how hacked off you are with his & his colleagues 25% pay increase.
This is a building society not a bank, its profits are down 50% & there is no mutual benefit to me with 0.10 % on my savings. A 25% pay increase in this climate. Pathetic.
I have been with the Nationwide for 25 years but not for much longer if this is the way of things.
A building society should work for the mutual benefit of the all its members not the enrichment of the few:mad:0 -
That time of year again for members to vote at the Nationwide AGM 2010.
Did I read the Director's Remuneration Report right and one director left the Nationwide BS early with £1.7 million in his pocket?
Members have to make a stand again this year as the board are once again looking after their own interests rather than the poor members.0 -
Without going into any detail the 4 directors up for vote this year are the 4 I dislike most
but sadly the vast majority of members in nationwide tick the box saying we agree with the boards recomendation. I however enjoy saying no to the recomendations. though I did vote yes on the special amendment.

I phoned up today (0800 30 20 15) because I didn't receive mine and was told I was inelligible to vote because my balance was below £100 on the 4th April (I was transferring some money and soon after this was much higher). So obviously your opinion doesn't matter if you don't have much money! lol0

I Its implementation of faster payments has been pathetic. The system was introduced 13 months ago and most Flexaccounts can't send or receive faster payments and the minority that can have a ludicrous £10 transaction limit.0

I received an email reminding me to vote. It said you could win £1000 by voting, so 20p to Macmillan and the chance of a prize for me makes it worth using my vote. My dad always said you can't complain if you don't vote so it's good to see posters on here saying they've used their vote. It may be a minortity that say no but if the number of NO votes have increased a lot at least n'wide will knoe their members aren't as happy this year.
It also said they'd like you to let them know if you're attending the AGM - am I being cynical when I think is this so they have an idea of numbers or is it so they can have a look at your details to see what sort of questions you might raise.0 -
