After posting on Sunday about the benefits of Applecare I got to experience it one more time today :(

My Macbook Pro refused to wake up yesterday. Did all the usual diagnostics but no joy. So today I went into the (empty) Apple store without a Genius Bar appointment. Dropped off the laptop at 10:30am, picked it up at 7:30pm complete with new motherboard - just like my last Toshiba. The staff instore couldn't have been more helpful - or at least they were once I pointed out this was the 4th repair and I was seriously unhappy. Suddenly the diagnose/repair time came down from 10 days to same day.

So the score is product reliability - 0, quality of service 1

Hopefully that'll be an end to your problems.

I would expect more of an Apple, but I have to say, most 2 year old laptops I see have bits falling off them.

Hav you tried eBay, for a secondhand one. If you chose right you could get one still in warranty for a lot cheaper, then buy applecare if you wish.

That's what I will do, that said, I'm having a bad experience at the moment

I have looked on the apple store education section, and am not sure if OU qualifies as a uni with them (obviously it is one!)

    Anyone know?

Couldn't say for sure Becky, but when I looked for OP (my mum :j) on the Apple site to see what discount I could get her as a student, I had an online chat with an Apple advisor, who was able to answer my questions about discount - I'm sure someone on this service would be able to tell you if they give discounts to OU students.

  • Just a quick question - what is the point in taking out Apple care? Dont all student discount laptops come with free 3 year hardware warranty anyway?

AppleCare includes on-site servicing, a worldwide warranty, and three years of phone support.
