Can anyone please offer their thoughts on this?
http://www.johnlewis.com/230517456/Product.aspx
Is it a good price?
Seems substantially lower than most Macbooks are - why?
I'm still going round in circles over what to get for my first laptop.
Price IS important but more so is durability.
My existing desktop has lasted 12 years and has only just needed a new PSU.
I want a laptop that will last too.
It freaks me out when I read on here people reckoning they've done well for their laptop to last 4 years.
Any advice?
Was only intending to spend up to £500 but if this Macbook is a good buy I'll eat Baked beans for a year to afford it;)

I would personally go for this MacBook from the Apple store - plus if you know anybody at College/University you would get a discount and Apple Care for £49!!!!
Plus this one is a Pro!!!!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I was only tempted by the one i quoted as it seemed less expensive than Macbooks are normally.
Sorry but absolutely NOT looking to increase spend even more, no matter what the spec.
Do you know the one I asked about?:o0 -
You could get a good spec PC lappy for half that price.0

Are you sure that the one in John Lewis is less expensive?

the one in John Lewis is just the MB 13 inches 2 Ghz £798
while the one in Apple same spec is £749Do Something Amazing- Give Blood0 -
JL one is very good value - especially as it is one of the newer (but now obsolete) unibody machines with LED screen, not the older white plastic ones with LCD screen. Take that with the two year John Lewis warranty and then pick up a three year Applecare contract for £75 off eBay.
The 13.3" unibody Macbook was dropped a couple of weeks ago in favour of the Macbook Pro, which has essentially the same specs with the addition of faster graphics and firewire.0 -
It's not a bad price, so long as you're aware it's a slightly older model.
Keep an eye on the Apple Refurb Store for some good bargains.0 -

Only I followed the link and the page was blank, well not blank but no stock showing?
Thanks for the link anyway, I'll watch a bit.:rolleyes:0 -
Why dont you just get a normal windows laptop and leave mac with its aesthetic factor prices. You can't keep a good man down...0

My girlfreind has just bought a macbook 2 weeks ago and I exchanged it last weekend for free for a macbook pro (in fact I was £30 better off!)
The macbook is cheaper because it has been discontinued and replaced with the macbook pro 13 inch. Differences being better graphics, an SD card slot and a slightly faster processor
If you know a student you can get 14% off, applecare for £49 and a free IPOD Touch (well £145 towards it) for the touch you have to pay upfront and claim the rebate in the post less tax (at about £15)
The mac, though overpriced, suits her needs but in my opinion there are cheaper laptops (by about £300-400) out there that would perform better for you and have more features0 -

Yes, they only update it as and when they have refurbished stock.
There are quite a few there right now.The mac, though overpriced, suits her needs but in my opinion there are cheaper laptops (by about £300-400) out there that would perform better for you and have more features
Yeah, they might even come with a free trial of Norton Antivirus, which will provide hours of fun.0
