AppleCare is Apple's extended warranty. Unlike many extended warranties, it's actually very good, and you can get it for a substantial reduction with an education discount.
Or from ebay. Recently got the macbook applecare for £80 ish instead of the expected £200. Has to be bought within the original 1 yr warranty though.
Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though

I think it's even cheaper when bought with an educational discount; £40 or something like that.

Which education store are you on?

There's one for schools, one for colleges, and one for universities.

In order to access the university and college discounts, you need to be using a computer on your institution's network.

You can get a free iPod Touch at the minute when you buy a Mac with an education discount.

I've been watching this thread as I too am wanting to buy a macbook (or imac) but find the prices a bit high. Can you help with the following.

How do you get student discount, is it much (if i use a close family member will it all be in their name, I'm thinking of anything going wrong)

If i have to buy is it better to buy in JL the apple store or the online store and is there a time of year when they launch new models and sell old one's at reduced prices (i can wait for a while although my pc is on it's last legs and won't last much longer)

    What is applecare
You go to the Apple store with your friend they show their Uni student card at time of purchase you get the discount and its all in your name, simple.

I have looked on the apple store education section, and am not sure if OU qualifies as a uni with them (obviously it is one!)

    Anyone know?

It might do, but you'll need to go to an Apple Store or order over the phone.

You can reach them at 0800 072 1154.
