  • Ah hah!

Despite my lapse in judgement with the curry and beer on Saturday, I have lost (I think, scales, three different weights, averaging them out and so on) one whole lb.

Not the best result in the world for the first week on a diet, but at least its off. :o

This week, I am going to try to incorporate those squats and lunges into my routine. However, this week is mainly a revision based week. Hmmmm, I think my revision snacks will have to be carrot sticks. :D

I hope you guys don't mind if I join too?

It's a shame I didn't find this thread earlier as I could have argued the other side of the Atkins diet. Or perhaps the 'middle' side of it. Never mind.

I am 160cm (5'4") and weigh 81kg (180lb; 1lb = 0.45kg). I used to be a lot more than that, but I'm not telling how much. :o I've lost it and kept it off mostly through staying active and keeping my eating under control. Moving to London has made it easier because often walking is faster than public transport around here.

My goal is to do at least 5 hours a week of exercise and to cut out starches and refined carbohydrates especially chocolate and biscuits.

For those people who have said that they don't know what exercise to do, I have found exercise DVDs fantastic, especially Pilates. My favourite at the moment is Pilates - Target Specifics - Abs, Arms, Hips, Thighs. The workout is broken down into fifteen minute sessions, which are hard enough for me to feel (and how!) but not so difficult that I end up just lying there panting like a beached whale. I also bought a yoga mat from Boots for £6.66 (down from £10) but they have a complete beginners yoga kit available on special for £5 (half price) if anyone is interested. I can recommend the mat as being quite good.

Signing up for free DVD trials is a good idea as it means you vary your workout. Prevents boredom and uses different muscle groups. I am thinking of trying a belly dancing DVD for a bit of variety. Anyone have any experience with this?

Exercise bikes and rowing machines are also great if you have the space.

Greetings mackengirl and Grimelda....welcome to our Cuddle! And welcome anyone else who'se lurking but hasn't said anything yet!!

Thanks for the Boots yoga tip - will give that a whirl with my points.

I've just had a true MSE DF&FF result...went to Tesco to load up on veg for healthy FF dinner and they had lots of 2 for £X offers...well, they overcharged me on two at the checkout so having read the Tescos threads on MSE, I nipped straight to customer services and they gave me a full refund! So thats a pile of healthy veg for dinner for the next few days courtesy of Tescos and the extra money popped in the hungry mouth of Daisy the Mortgage Pig!! Yeeaayy!

Freebird...think about it...you had to walk back to customer services, stay in line...argue your case... this was exercise!!! ;)

If the worse comes to the worse you could always park the car far from home so it would force you to wlak back! :p

Or you could park all the way over the other side of the car park so that you have to walk further! Hubby seems to do this alot - do you think he's trying to tell me something???

  • how about making a point of walking up and down every single aisle even if you think you don't need anything - increases the daily step count and you might find some hidden bargains too!

ive been to my first yoga class today followed by body pump so my arms are almost too tired to type. on 5 days without choccy now and the cravings are kicking in!

Trouble is, walking up all the aisles means I see things I didn't realise I 'needed' and then I spend more that I planned! And Sainsbury's seem to have chocolates lurking in almost every aisle these days. Has anyone else noticed?

Congrats on yoga. After my first ever yoga class, my abs hurt so much I could barely breathe or talk. I moved down to the easier 'Body Balance' classes after that!

OK, cabbage soup is in slow cooker.....
no option but to stick to it as spent all money on healthy stuff ...which I actually really like, just that I prefer doorstep sandwich with chicken mayo..........

wish me luck - if I survive the night, like I said, soup in slow cooker, can smell it already...........23_28_108.gif

  • Hello dear cuddly (and now not so cuddly anymore!) peoples, after reading for 3 days (at work in between doing work) I have decided to ask "permission to enter" as well. I am a kilo person, but in a conversion calculator found out I weigh 88kg which is !13.85! Stone. I am almost crying at this admission and haven't told ANYONE else. I am 174cm (about 5foot10?) tall and hate the way I look. 2 years ago I shed 3 stone but I quit smoking and have put it all back one, hence me wanting to join. I am a member of a gym but will try my own eating as I can't afford WW etc at the moment. Oh, and I'm 25 :D
Grimelda I'd be very keen to hear your side on Atkins as Amos had me pretty convinced there (it just sounds so easy sigh ) BTW Amos if you are still reading it would be nice if you came back...after all peops here were only concerned and that is what a "cuddle" is all about!
    'nuff said ;)
