IPODS overhyped & overpriced and sound quality compared to a Creative Zen or a Sony music player is awful. The headphones you get with the above two named as usually amazing also. I got a £60 set of headphones with my Sony player.
Do not touch a IPOD imo.0 -
MartyJ, thanks for your definition of the word consensus. I find that grammar Nazi's are quite adept at telling me things I already knew. How I read it... the comments weren't exactly "rave reviews" and weren't "condeming it", therefore "meh". Perhaps go look that up on your dictionary and copy/paste it in here too?
I wasn't taking issue with your grammar, it was your semantics (as I'm doing again right now).
I think you're seeing what you want to see.FYI :- I used the word consensus in the correct context. Even if you think my analysis or summary of the consensus was incorrect, there was no need to copy a dictionary definition. I'm English, you speak my language, not the other way around - ignorant yank. In hindight, you would have been more accurate defining the word "meh".
No, you took a collection of mostly positive comments and said they were mostly "meh". They were not. Read them if you don't believe me.
And for the record, I'm from Northern Ireland. If you really must make derogatory remarks about nationality, please make them about the Irish instead.Regarding the rest of picking my post appart, I've said how I feel on the iPod. I'm not going to pick yours appart becuase it would be a rather frivalous excercise. The only thing I will say is the Zen I currently own was unpackaged, plugged in and had a copy of my music collection within a few clicks. All without software use, simply plug/copy/play. This isn't possible on iPod. Which is why I don't own one and cannot be bothered with the "FAFF".
Of course you used software to copy your music, unless your mp3 player is magic or something. The software you used just came with your computer.
But then again, iTunes came installed on my Mac, so I seem to have pulled off what "isn't possible on iPod".I did say in my OP, each to their own, your reasons as to why you think the iPod/Nano are so good are the same reasons I use my mp3 player: "Because they look good, are really well built, and they do what they're designed to do really well?". Except the original iPods weren't. Fair enough now they might have a grip on their hardware but originally they didn't.
So you're comparing your current mp3 player to one released 8 years ago? Finally with regards "gimicky products". Apple sell a lifestyle choice, not "SUPERIOR HARDWARE/SOFTWARE, etc".
I choose to disagree. An iPod Touch vs a Creative Zen is no comparison. It's kind of embarrassing how much better the iPod Touch is.They effectivley get sheep by the balls and then bring out all the "must have" accessories such as crappy stero speakers you can dock your iPod into and get real poor sound quality OUT LOUD and other such gubbins that to be fair, can always be achieved using 3rd party manufacturers/bit of dabbling and or a cable for £3 quid into your real hi-fi.
Most accessories made for the iPod aren't made by Apple. As far as I'm aware, Apple don't make any "crappy stero speakers".My comments end here, you know my view, I know the fanboys view. I'm sure the OP can do some thinking for himself and a bit of research before bleeting his way down to the Apple store...
I'm sure we're all very impressed how individualistic you are because you don't own an iPod. There is a school of thought that says you shouldn't judge someone by their possessions, nevermind what mp3 payer they own, but I won't bore you with it. I'm sure too many people follow it for you to be interested.0 -
I don't have and an ipod and probably never will have.
However. I do use itunes to store a considerable music collection and find it very flexible in general. I set all new tracks to be added/converted automatically to mp3s so I've no problems with playing tracks on different players.
Most of the settings for making itunes practical are in there, it's just Apple who don't want your itunes to be flexible!0 -

I'm willing to bet quite a large sum of money you couldn't tell the difference between them in an ABX test. The headphones you get with the above two named as usually amazing also. I got a £60 set of headphones with my Sony player.
The iPod's earphones are crap. No secret there.Do not touch a IPOD imo.
Yes, imaginary differences in sound are an excellent thing to base purchase decisions on.
Do the magic beans come with the Zen or the Sony?0 -
I'm excited for the Zune HD, shaping up to be a real nice piece of kit. I'll finally retire my Zune which has served me well to my nephew who's been hassling me for it when I'm finished using it for himself.0

Cool, we got our opinions and as stated I'm saying no more on the matter.
Slightly off topic : Grammar ~= Semantics in Language. I'm sure you can get a dictionary definition and slap it in here at some point
(Whilst there, look up definition of Grammar Nazi).
Oh and also, regards to accessories made by apple, there are loads on their website. Not all made by Apple (clearly stated as logitech/bose/etc) and some ARE branded by Apple - THEY were what I was referring too!0 -

I see we have a IPOD fanboy:rotfl: So many around. It was based on my opinion. And the hundreds of reviews from people who have bought this junk.0 -

Fair enough. :beer:Slightly off topic : Grammar ~= Semantics in Language. I'm sure you can get a dictionary definition and slap it in here at some point
According to OS X's dictionary, grammar is "the whole system and structure of a language or of languages in general, usually taken as consisting of syntax and morphology (including inflections) and sometimes also phonology and semantics", and semantics is "the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning."
So I guess semantics is part of the grammar of a language, but then again, so is every other aspect of the language, so semantics is more precise when talking about the meaning of words.(Whilst there, look up definition of Grammar Nazi).
It's not in OS X's dictionary, so that phrase doesn't exist I'm afraid.
It does redirect me to a Wikipedia article called "Linguistic prescription" though.0 -

Yeah, I've also read reviews that say putting green marker pen on your CDs makes them sound better, and they're as rigourously tested.
The most important aspect of the sound quality is the earphones, not the player.0 -
Love it all, Love the battles (x vs x), makes me smile.0
