but I wouldnt not allow him to play if he hasnt done his chores......he doesnt have a set list, but at the same time, he knows he cant wreck the place then stroll out with his mates.

    xx

Perhaps I didnt phrase it properly I didnt mean not to let them play, just as you said there, I dont want them thinking, as they do now, that they can trash the place and do as they please.
Its hard to explain what Im trying to say (and Im not normally struggling for words!!!)

    Hi ladies

    Pigpen and Mrs B

well I did the kitchen and dining room last night - proof here

Mrs B - well done for taking time out. I tried the family thing and told them that we could do a half hour challenge in whatever was the room of the day for their pocket money. Needless to say I get most of it now but at least they know there is an opportunity to earn pocket money if they want it. You'll eventually find a balance that suits you.

Then I must either fly or design invites ??????!!!!!

*Wolf Whistles* NICE house!!!! good job on the kitchen too! Im think of posting a pic of my kitchen, but then I'll have to clean it!!(and you'll see my walls need painting!):rotfl: It NEVER looks this bad (ok, hasnt for a long time), just goes to show what happens when you DONT do your flying!!!

You might be right re the pocket money thing. We dont give pocket money at the mo because we pay out so much for them already, cubs, brownies, school trips etc. But then I suppose with all that money we pay out, I feel a few little jobs wouldnt kill them!!! As you say, its finding the balance!

Oh and I vote "design invites" (although Pigpen will probably kick me for saying that:rotfl:)

Amazing how you lot can cheer me up thanks xx

You are right of course Pigpen and as much as I would LOVE to give them a copy of the daily list each day and tell them they can't play until "Ive" earnt my star, I wouldnt do that.:rotfl: If I thought they'd do it I would :p

Im just thinking basic little jobs that they don't do, like clearing their plates after dinner etc. Perhaps even having to wash the bathroom sink might discourage them from smearing toothpaste and god knows what else round it!! Mine have to clean up the bogies off the bathroom wall and the poo too... I refuse to do it.. good thing I know whose bogies/poo is whose!

Also, if they help out with little jobs, hopefully I might have more time to do nice things with them. I have to do somethings in the house, not because I want a show home, but I have a crawling baby and therefore cant have things all over the floor. I just feel like Im on the go all day doing things they could be doing for themselves or helping out with. You see where Im coming from Im sure. oh yes!!!

I guess it's finding the balance between doing everything for them and sending them down the mines or up chimneys to work!!! chimneys definitely are the way to go!

it's not the easiest job in the world sometimes!!

    *Sigh*

I think... fwiw.... that a household has to function as a team. We're Team Shattered. Everyone has to do their bit. It's not fair for anyone one member of the household to have to do everything, and I think it's bad practise for children to believe that Mum (or Dad) will do everything for them.

Obviously children need to have their fun time, but there's nothing wrong with "fun time" coming after "job time".

My girls are much happier when they have boundaries in place, and they aren't running the show. - naturally they're not thrilled when I re-inforce the boundaries, but tough... they get over it, and everyone's better for it.

My dd3 is 8, she has downs and adhd, but she is still expected to do her jobs... making her bed (straightening her quilt and pillow), tidying the cushions on the sofa, putting away her toys/books, fetching things for me... etc etc.

I have lovely children, but I'm raising them to be lovely adults. That doesn't mean that I expect adult behaviour from them, but I do expect them to contribute to the smooth running of the household.
