Mrs Beatson, Sarah shattered said it all really. My boys have little jobs like clearing the table after tea, and they have to tidy up after themselves if they cover the bedroom floor with toys for example. If the playroom needs doing then I make them help but I wont do it all for them, cue many tears. I will not have children who abandon their shoes on the floor as they come in, and can't hang their own coats up. They rinse the sink after they have used it and put lids back on the toothpaste, etc, something my MIL neglected to teach my DH! Once they are older they will take turns with everyone else to empty the DW, etc but I agree with Pigpen about WM's and so on as a stage too far. Equally I don't expect any child (17yo step son included) to willingly and enthusiastically clean the toilets. He instead mows the lawn which I hate doing. Hope this makes sense, I took the instruction to add wine to the risotto to mean the person stirring rather than the dish.
I totally agree with this.....like i said - the little jobs he has to do.
He doesnt have to clear the table, but he has to put his plate in the kitchen/sink. Same with his bowl at breakfast time. Like I said, its the same with the toys - and if he wont pick them up and help - then I threaten to bin them cos they are not my toys, so why should i have to pick them up all the time. Like Hex says, tears follow, but they soon learn and get on with it.
If he plastered toothpaste all over the bathroom, I would make him help to clean it up (although I appreciate getting him to clean the ceiling would be a tad difficult). If he drops a wet towel on the floor, he has to pick it up. He knows the clothes he takes off, go in the basket.
Its not for him to worry about how they get clean, ironed and folded back into his room, but I'll be sure I'll do all that I can to make sure some lucky lady who ends up marrying him, will not have to complain that his mother never taught him to pick up after himself
Just start getting them to help with the little things. Im lucky as mine has naturally wanted to do more, but its not always practical.
He has wanted to help do the dishes........he is 7!!! No way......but to be honest I think he wants to splash around and play with the bubbles! :rotfl:
ETA - Hex - I keep meaning to say....well done on the weight loss - and to all the other flyladies who have lost weight.
Oh and whilst Ive had a glass (or two) I'll inform you all, Ive officially lost the 15 stone permanently........ for good. It's very bizarre that you are still wearing the same size after a 2 stone loss. Did you measure yourself? I'll measure myself on Monday and let you know how many inches I've lost.
Nah.. I can never find a tape.. my belt is on one hole tighter.. about an inch and that's it... My bras are fitting exactly the same.. Maybe I am just filling up with air and need a good trumpety trump lolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Thanks to everyone that's mentioned the job.... mostly it's great, just every now and again, something will take your knees from under you. Everything affects people differently. Upset young ones is tough, but I'd rather they had somewhere to come, and get some support... and it really is non-judgemental support, nothing is pushed one way or another, it's client led.
Anyway... tomorrow's another day, I wonder what it'll bring! MMSSB Club Founder Member MMSSB Club Founder Member

Obviously children need to have their fun time, but there's nothing wrong with "fun time" coming after "job time".
Thats kinda what I was trying to say earlier
My dd3 is 8, she has downs and adhd, but she is still expected to do her jobs... making her bed (straightening her quilt and pillow), tidying the cushions on the sofa, putting away her toys/books, fetching things for me... etc etc.
WHAT a darling! DS1 is nearly 9 and couldn't manage that!!
I have lovely children, but I'm raising them to be lovely adults.
Thats what I want. I DO have lovely kids but that DO take me and everything they get for granted. They are not spoilt materialistly, but perhaps in the fact that I seem to do everything for them!
xxI will not have children who abandon their shoes on the floor as they come in, and can't hang their own coats up. They rinse the sink after they have used it and put lids back on the toothpaste, etc,
Oh I wish!!! The problem is they CAN, they choose not to bother!! I think its not that Im not strict, I just gave up [STRIKE]telling[/STRIKE] asking them to pick up after themselves, and did it myself. Made a rod for my own back I guess!I found I helped much more at home as I wanted to free up my mum's time so she could spend it with me! (although that's a bit of a drastic solution to the problem... you could try the threat though ) )
Thats what I want though! I feel if everyone mucked in a bit we could have more quality time together
kazm - There's a dramatic difference between the upstairs and the downstairs of your house! LOl I noticed that too, but was too polite to say so!!:rotfl:
 .
Thanks for the response ladies.. gonna pull my (and the kids) socks up and get them involved more. Been a funny old week this week, not feeling my usual chirpy self. Just spoke to OH on the phone and told him that and he said he felt he wasnt feeling too chirpy this week either! is it the weather do you think??
greenbee any giggles today?:D ohhh just read it on Facebook!:rotfl:If you have made someone laugh today... check your skirt isn't tucked into your knickers!!!:rotfl:SarahShattered wrote: »Mrs B you're a legend.0
