Ive had a complete CBA day today. Decided I was SICK of cleaning etc etc blah blah blah and chose instead to have a WHOLE day of me time!!
Did a lot of reading on t'internet.. funny how you go from one site to another to another, isnt it?
Found an interesting bloggers website that kinda opened my eyes a bit! She has 8 children and they all have (and do) helped out with chores since they were little. Everyone has a room/task for the day and free time (ie playing out etc ) is earnt by doing their chores. She said everyone has to help out because its a big family! Made me realise that I do EVERYTHING for my kids. No wonder I feel so stroppy all the time. My kids dont do ANYTHING for themselves or round the house and have a major breakdown if I ask them to do ANYTHING!! And yet they still demand the things they want/need.
Ive said it in the past I was going to give the kids tasks from Pigpens list and I might just do that now. I might even cut down on TV and playing out time too. Fed up of them coming home from school, going out to play with their mates in the street and only wandering back in to ask "when's dinner?" (and then turning their noses up at whatever it is.)
I have dogged my guts out the last few months and esp the last couple of weeks to get the house looking nicer and have realised they dont respect me or the house. Had to wipe toothpaste off the CEILING the other day:eek:
Gosh I went off ranting again, SORRY!!! Just like the idea of all the family mucking in to help, and the principles and values it might teach them!!
Any thoughts, anyone? Or am I just hoping for too much??
So no star for me today.. But Ive earnt 4 this week so thats not so bad!!
Hardly any wine in the house which is [STRIKE]distressing[/STRIKE] a shame
I have a kitchen full of dirty dishes from dinner and it's not like me to leave it like that but Im gonna leave it until [STRIKE]i can be bothered[/STRIKE] its cooler
Much hugs...

Well.. while mine do help they do not have set jobs childhood is about playing and having fun and learning and while they are capable of most tasks I am loathe to treat them like house elves.
They are shown how to do most things.. loading washer for example but not expected to do it but they do if i ask and if I ask for help it means I need it.
I like my children being children and do not wantthem to be little adults.
Maybe explains why my house is a skip but at least the children know they can come in and play and not have demands made of them or feel they daren't touch anything..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
My little one is 7 and he has to open his own curtains and make his bed (its a poor effort but as long as he makes the effort). He has to tidy up his own toys and if he wont, he is told they will go in the bin - which is usually followed by tears and a drama, but he will pick them up in the end.....which is a lesson now learned and I hardly ever have to tell him to pick them up. He just does.
He can pour his own cereal, milk and fruit juice at breakfast time, and knows where to locate his clean uniform, pants, socks etc and get himself ready for school.
He occasionally helps with things like the hoovering/taking out recycling (you always have to do it after them, but i praise him making the effort).
Hes quite independent by nature so he likes to be able to do things for himself and he knows the house doesnt clean itself, so I dont think there is any harm in him helping out in little ways, but I wouldnt not allow him to play if he hasnt done his chores......he doesnt have a set list, but at the same time, he knows he cant wreck the place then stroll out with his mates.

You are right of course Pigpen and as much as I would LOVE to give them a copy of the daily list each day and tell them they can't play until "Ive" earnt my star, I wouldnt do that.:rotfl:
Im just thinking basic little jobs that they don't do, like clearing their plates after dinner etc. Perhaps even having to wash the bathroom sink might discourage them from smearing toothpaste and god knows what else round it!!
Also, if they help out with little jobs, hopefully I might have more time to do nice things with them. I have to do somethings in the house, not because I want a show home, but I have a crawling baby and therefore cant have things all over the floor. I just feel like Im on the go all day doing things they could be doing for themselves or helping out with. You see where Im coming from Im sure.
I guess it's finding the balance between doing everything for them and sending them down the mines or up chimneys to work!!!
it's not the easiest job in the world sometimes!!

and caught up with the thread as follows
greenbee - more hugs for you, hope you'll be back on track soon
toots - glad toxics visit wasnt so stressful this week
tooch - the finished product looks fab :T
sexymouse - good luck with the planning for and the interview
Piggers and SSL - I'm with you on the Jacko thing, couldnt stand the weirdo or his music. Have had to keep turning the car radio off today. I liked the bit about him suffering a cardiac arrest - er well yes all dead people have done that
irie - glad you enjoyed DD's 1st birthday, I always think its the most memorable one
toots - hope the tummy settled down (its not medication thats caused it is it, sometimes some of them list it as a side effect)
soappie - great news on the writing
sarahshattered - sounds like a tough job you got now
siannielaz - can you talk to your OH about how you are feeling
FFP - your smiley inserts always make me smile
boddy - poor you - hope you got some peace later
Jo - thats a h3ll of a lot of makeup n stuff
Pigpen - I'm working my way through the lush stuff as well - I still have about 6 of the small gift boxes from xmas not opened yet but my favourite at the moment is the pink spearmint foot lotion - no more scaly rat feet I think was OH's expression!
swinstie - thats even more toiletries than Jo's make up
zippy - the cream eggs i'm sure a re good for energy
FFP - your hols have started early, ours have 3 weeks left yet
rosepink - hugs for you hunny, hope 2moro is better for you
boddy - bet the little lady was chuffed to bits, you have such a kind heart :A
Mrs B - well done for taking time out. I tried the family thing and told them that we could do a half hour challenge in whatever was the room of the day for their pocket money. Needless to say I get most of it now but at least they know there is an opportunity to earn pocket money if they want it. You'll eventually find a balance that suits you.
Right what else
getting stressed over the event big time now - why cant I cope with people knowing (apart from you guys of course) its doing my head in the thought of telling people, and now OH and I are (ok well me really) having to 'discuss' the arrangements again as we seem to be getting a mix between a normal sort of dress up do and the casual that we originally decided to go for. I even went to a printers at lunchtime to see about designing some invites and ended up storming out because first they have to go away and get a price then once I agree they then design a proof to then sned for print - I said I've only got 8 weeks and ended up telling them I'd do it myself and walked out
Right food is calling, OH has gone to work, DS is at his dads, DD has had a hoops tea (her favourite) so its just me and the dog that need something. Then I must either fly or design invites ??????!!!!!Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
