We also really wanted the tanks we ordered, and wrote with the suggestion of a compromise - but as yet no reply. I was told by B&Q that about 400 people had ordered them - which would be really expensive for B&Q. BTW, still no refund credited to my card....

    Hi all

Re. my post above - I don't doubt that many people really wanted this item - but I was just wondering how many ordered just because they knew that this was highly likely to become a similar situation to the dishwasher fiasco. I am sure that many people who ordered did so in the hope that they were risking £50 on something which they could sell on if it was in fact delivered or, as was more likely, it wouldn't be delivered and they could sue B&Q for over £1k loss of bargain.

Like I said - I'm not saying I didn't think about it either! And also as I said....good luck to all those who go for loss of bargain....it's B&Qs own fault really.

Hope I didn't offend anyone earlier.

Can't speak for anyone with dodgy motives but personally, I had a use for the product, I am constantly on the look out for bargains and ordered 1, just the amount I required.

If when I tried to place the order, I had been advised that it was out of stock, it would just have been shrugged off, as probably with some others.

But my order was accepted, confirmed and paid for. I heard nothing otherwise from Sunday until Thursday, even though B&Q have my email address and telephone numbers.. It didn't seem risky to have a hole dug with a thin base of concrete on Wednesday surely?

I don't want £1k and the hassel of finding a comparable product. I WANT the one that I ordered or for them to source an alternative.

To anyone that got one to flog off on ebay, BOO to you.

Good luck to you all - I thought about buying a tank...not because I needed it or wanted it, but because I could almost 'see' the outcome, ie no tanks, money taken, money refunded, sue B&Q and profit. I decided not to order because whilst I am the first to take advantage of low prices/misprices etc. it has to be for something I need or really want but up to the point of any lower price offer being posted I felt I couldn't justify the cost.

I seriously wonder how many who ordered this item 'genuinely' wanted the tank (or tanks for those who ordered multiply quantities) and will, if they win a small claim, go and buy one elsewhere with the money......and how many will pocket the 'profit' and rub their hands with glee and await the next error on a website.

Don't get me wrong....B&Q asked for everything they are likely to get, their T&Cs are ridiculous - more so in view of the fact that following the dishwasher fiasco they didn't bother to change them and their money collection procedures to protect themselves and their suppliers appropriately.

IMHO i don't think that people need to justify trying to buy one. Nothing wrong with just buying something you see that you don't really need.... half my house is filled with stuff that i have bought but don't need!;)

....thank goodness i never saw this or this would have been just another one of those things!

I'm not sure where the other thread is that was in "It's gone but was it any good"?

Anyway, I've sent B&Q a letter this morning asking for a "loss of bargain" payment and stating that I will commence a small claims court case if I haven't heard within 14 days.

    Tick tock tick tock....

Please let me know what they come back to you with (if they bother to reply!!).

ETA: I have just emailed them the same request.

I've just had an email from B&Q in reply to my request that they supply a comparable item (e.g. the Titan 900 litre tank):

    "Dear xxxxxxxx

I apologise for any disappointment this error has caused, however our position still remains the same and we are unable to fulfil your order.

The items were incorrectly labelled as “direct from supplier” and the clearance stocks we had available have now been exhausted.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Les Templeton
