I need some of those pads to protect the carpet, and a waterproof sheet, and a rope (so I can hang off the bannisters during contractions and open up my hips), plus i need something to make my cord tie out of, and some bendy straws.

    It's not much.

I also need to pack everything into one place and pack my 'labour bag', as well as type up my birth plan and email it to my doula and print it out for my MW to go into my notes.

I am hoping this is something very sensible that I am being very dumb about

But no, you dont have too much to get, but time is running out !!!! tick tock and all that :rotfl:

I knew I'd have to explain that one!

OK, well, I'm having a homebirth so I'll be doing all my labouring here, and I saw in Ina May Gaskin's book on childbirth that a position they use a lot in labour at her place in America (she is a MW) is an old position that originated in Ireland.

they have a hook on the ceiling and loop a rope or material over it, so the labouring woman can hold onto it above her head and use it to get into an assisted squat.

You can also squat and lean back, which is similar to and more effective than hanging off the doorhandles, which the NCT teaches as a position for labour.

It basically helps to open up your hips and aids your balance so it's easier than a squat, and not necessarily as deep.

I don;t have a hook in the ceiling, unsurprisingly, so I plan to hang it over the top bannister and squat in the hall. My stairs go round each other kind of like a square spiral, so it will work quite well.

I only need a rope for it and it seems an effective position so worth the cost of the rope.

I can;t find a picture to post but I might take a pic with my camera of the one in the book and post that if anyone wants me to, as it does look good and when I hung off the doorhandles at antenatal class it felt great.

hi again!! i disappeared about an hour and a hlaf ago and have been busy busy busy from it. really think my nesting has kicked in!! cleaned windows, and extra wash and hangout, good tidyup of upstairs, clean bathroom, made dd and I lunch....think im doing pretty well today -- compared to the previous few days anyways!!!
Carla - here is a link to quiche recipe from the bbc website
I'm more of a throw it in kinda of cook, so I make a shortcrust pastry base (1/2 amount of butter to flour, into breadcrumbs - add cold water to bin) blind bake until it starts to firm up (I've already done this bit :j)
For the filling I'll cook off some bacon (but you can add whatever you fancy - we have bacon in the fridge which needs using up :)) and throw in with a pile of grated cheese - the stronger the better - and a mix of cream and eggs - prob a tub of cream and the 5 eggs I have left - some more cheese popped on top and pop in the oven until cooked through! HTH

Thanks nms!!! I think i might try it, altho only thing i wouldnt be comfortable with doing would be the base!!? I might pop to the shop and get some readymade stuff asreally fancy quiche for dinner tonyt!!
