Thanks for your replies Glam, MM, Becster.

I expected that I probably should wash the baby clothes, but then I also thought it might advise on the packaging to "wash before first use" or something, but it doesn't.
Is everyone using non-bio washing powder too? Some places I read that you should, but then other places say that normal washing powder is fine for babies unless they have skin condition. I guess I will probably by some non-bio to be on the safe side, but just wondered if it's essential??

I have bought non-bio recently (used to just buy whatever was on offer!) and been washing all our stuff in it. It's all the same to me!

Just need to wait 10mins to check my bloods then I can go to bed for a nap!

I have washed all the new stuff to get rid of the smell! Use non-bio anyway but I did but sensitive softener for her clothes, although once she is here her stuff will get chucked in with the rest of the stuff and it won't matter so she better have good skin!

I hoovered and now I am knackered and sore.

    Ladies

Just been to asda and they have 2 x Fairy Non-bio washing gel for £6. Should be £4.88 each so pretty good deal if you need to get some. Pack says it should do 18 washes.

I asked mum yesterday and she said she used ordinary bio for us when we were little but if the advice is non-bio then to use that for the first few months. Trouble is I can't remember whether that is just a fairy marketing ploy of if it is proper advice.

Why am I suddenly noticing lots of sexy men around. I'm sure Yeovil is not normally known for the eye candy but Asda was full of them this morning. And there was me, no make-up, fat and slobbing around in nasty maternity clothes whilst all the posh stuff is in the wash. As if I didn't feel horrible enough. lol.

Good to know they are around though, might incentivise me back into my Size 0 by Christmas. (Mum laughed her socks off when I said that yesterday - the losing weight, not the stalking of nice young men!!!)

SM - if you are around, Dixons have a new Hotpoint washing machine for £119 delivered. I know you said you were looking at one tomorrow, but just in case, this appears to be a good price. It was posted oh HUKD.

Hugs to Fairy. Glad you are starting to feel a bit better. Not long for you to go! x

I am soooo jealous that you all can still walk about shopping and do things around the house (never thought I would say that lol). My DD and 2 of her friends even came round to wash all the baby clothes and sort baby's room as I cannot stand for more than a few minutes. Sometimes I don't even think I will make it to the loo  my hips just won't support me anymore.
Consultant on Tuesday so will find out what the plan of action is, midwife has told me to expect booking in for c-section...... will mjust have to wait and see.

i must admit i do wonder about not using 'our ' washing powder. what was the washing powder when i was small??
is there a reason why we should not use normal washing powder.?
i got a big box of Daz in asda for £8 that does 80 odd washes, prob more if i use less powder on each wash. i was planning to use this for rest of baby clothes and the fairy non-bio for the first few things...

On the washing powder front I've been looking for something cheaper but good and the magazines all recommended Lidls own brand , Formil 5.13 kg on offer at the moment, £1 off so it was around £4:50.

Plus it's non bio so you can wash the babies clothes in it. Must say I'm pretty impressed. Bought some Fairy non bio myself but now think oh how we get sucked in with packaging just because it shows a baby on the front of it!

Dr Denis Walsh, who's one of the UK's most influential midwives, says that women should suffer in labour to prepare them for the demands of motherhood and encourage them to bond with their babies.

"A large number of women want to avoid pain. Some just don't fancy the pain [of childbirth]. More women should be prepared to withstand pain," he told the Observer. "Pain in labour is a purposeful, useful thing, which has quite a number of benefits, such as preparing a mother for the responsibility of nurturing a newborn baby."

I'd like to take this man and wire him to the mains for such misogynistic claptrap. What prepares a man for the responsibilities of fatherhood?
