Am I weird?
I'm a bit of both - I am definitely excited about meeting baby (feels like I've been pregnant forever now) but just a bit scared about the actual birth bit. I think it's the unknown - I have been to classes and done lots of reading, but no two births are ever the same, so I can't really know what to expect.0 -

I'm excited too... have spent the whole of 2009 pregnant so am looking forward to meeting Cub. Dad asked me today if I was wishing it was happening now but tbh I think it all takes about the right amount of time for you to get used to idea and get truly ready... so while am excited am happy to be where I am now.

One of the ladies on the BS thread mentioned hypnobirthing so I thought I would look into it and £300 for a 2 day course
One of the sites said - you get £190 free from the government towards your course

Hello, MW didn't get to me until 2.45 as she was at a homebirth. She did a half-hearted sweep at my request as when she told me who was on call for the weekend I was a little disappointed. Out of all of the 12 MW's on the team there is only one I'm not comfortable with and typical it's her. Anyhow, nice one is back on duty Monday and she is coming back Monday morning which I'm happier with but if anything happens in the meantime then it does! Cervix has thinned out since Wednesday so what will be will be!!! She said she understood and would have a proper go Monday. Whats 2 more days.Too many children, too little time!!!0

I bought the hypnobirthing cd and book off ebay for not very much - about a fiver I think from recollection, and it was an interesting read. This was obviously before I realised there was going to be a problem for me. The week after I bought it though that Scandanavian research study came out which showed that statistically there is no difference in requests for pain relief/epidurals/c sections and assisted deliveries between those using breathing and relaxation techniques and those who don't. If that research is correct, and I understand it was a huge sample size, then £300 for the full course would sound like a lot of money. The other thing to bear in mind is that the book does refer to couples who have done the whole course and ended up needing c sections and epidurals and its comment is that these couples "were never committed to the philosophy", so if you did the course but didn't have the birth you wanted, you might have added levels of guilt to deal with afterwards and possibly some negative comments from other mums or the course leader to contend with if they do a post baby get together, as most private antenatal classes do.0

Thanks Nicki, that's very interesting. I've done yoga for three years now and still learning to breath properly! So don't see how you could do hypnobirthing in a two day course. Might go for some pregnancy yoga though because I can't do much in my normal yoga classes now but don't want to stop.
