I think the pension issue is a biggie for lots of people - it's certainly high on my agenda when I've gotten rid of the mortgage. I used to have an equitable life pension, so i am very cautious now - i am thinking i might even try and buy another property which, once ive paid off the mortgage on that, would provide an income. I know BTL is unfashionable and doesn't have the same tax advantages, but frankly, I'd rather have my assets under my control than in the hands of some anonymous fund manager..

You have my sympathies, cha! My DH is working away at the mo, so I've been here with 4 DC - and my easting is out of control. Weds night at about 10pm I made myself a syrup sponge and ate it all. Last night I made a 3pt rice pudding - and ate it last night and for breakfast ()oops) We got rid of our cleaner when DH was out of work because we didn't know how long it would be - and she's on hols right now, so I cant get her back. I've been running around like mad today to get the place 'ok' for DGH - who is a neat freak at the best of times, never mind when he's been away from home....

Let's both have a better week next week!! x

    Hi Michelle :hello:

I always found the summer holidays with my kids fun but totally exhausting! All the parent & toddler groups etc close down for the summer. You're doing the hardest job in the world so take time out to congratulate yourself on how well your doing. You seem like a lovely mum.:A

Hope you're feeling better soon. Your earlier comment about just wanting to be at home that's kept nice and being with your children echoed my thoughts. That's my motivation for being MFW. We debated moving to a bigger house but why nearly kill ourselves in the process and not afford to have another baby to fill that 4th bedroom! x

  • Cavity wall done, and it is ok. No rude workman like TPA thankfully, just rude blinking neighbours here.

They had just pulled up and started unloading their tools when one neighbour was on the phone moaning to me that there van was blocking her drive. That meant i had to go out and move my car so they could park their van outside our house, so i had to leave the kids unattended briefly while i did that, and that was not on in my books but i did it to keep the peace.

Then when they had just left, the neighbours on the other side were moaning at me about the mess that had blown over onto their patio, and how the guys could have offered to tidy it up. I think they were hinting for me to go over and deal with it, but it was honestly a bit of dust and foam. No big deal. And the pantomime he made of sweeping it up.

I don't know if i am being oversensitive today, but i was so annoyed i felt like having a slanging match but i rang DH instead. I mean it isn't like i have 2 small children to watch is it? Not like i am responsible either, unless i instructed God to blow the wind in that direction. We never moan when stuff goes wrong, like nextdoors arial blew off the roof and landed on my car roof and i didn't say a bat as i don't like conflict. No more Mrs nice guy.

Anyway, hopefully that is one job completed apart from a bit more sorting out/sweeping up outside. We had a gas/electric statement, and we are now £101 in credit with them. I am just waiting to see what happens when the weather gets cooler again before i get them to drop it or anything.

One more job for today. Something has been biting the kids to death. I need to work out if it is something outside or if one of the cats has fleas. Both have horrible bites on their armpits and more appearing daily, so i need to work that one out quickly and sort it.

I'm glad your work men were not like mine! Your neighbours sound charming:mad:

Re the bites, we used drop on frontline for our pets, not cheap but last for ages.

  • Hi Michelle, thats great about the wall insulation. Hopefully you will notice a big difference in your fuel bills in the winter. Neighbours can be a pain in the **s at times but hopefully things will settle down. Just read your previous post on the nappies....do you know you can double your tesco vouchers for baby stuff in tescos at the minute?

To be honest, i don't think it is fleas, but poor DS2 is really suffering from whatever it is. About 8 bites on his scalp, and loads in his armpit. It was so horrendously swollen where his body has reacted to it. A bath and some eczsma cream seemed to sooth it. We also had a good hoover up this evening.

Poor thing. Also have you given them Piriton? There is a syrup for children and will ease the swelling and itchiness.
